      My story and questions

Hello people. I am a newbie and thought i would say hello by telling you my Lucid story. I am hoping for some advice as well.

My trip into lucid dreaming began a few years back. It happened totally by accident. I was dreaming that i was walking down the road headed to my friends house. It was beutifull outside. as i was walking on the road i stopped and started to look around. I don't know why. I noticed that every blade of grass, every fence post, every tree, house, bush, ditch was present. It was if i was standing in a picture of the neighborhood. It was at that moment that i realized i was dreaming. I even thought about myself laying in bed. I looked around and thought....WOW.
The dream didn't last to long. I spent the rest of the time trying to fly..LOL..that's when i lost the dream. I have since learned that what i should have done is continue to my friends house to see why i was heading there in the first place.
After that night, i went to the bookstore and purchased a book on lucid dreaming. I believe the authors name is stephen laberg or something like that. The book listed several methods to lucid dreaming. The one i latched onto was i think called a wild.
I attempted it that night after reading how to do it and it worked 100 percent. I did it! I saw everything just like the tutorial on this site explains.
It started with flashes of color, then i started to see images. some were dark and others had partial color. Then i started to hear voices and see people. Before i knew what was going on, i found myself standing in the dark looking ahead about 20 feet. There was activity going on infront of me. I saw people. part of them had color and part was still black. I remember thinking..."who the heck are these people?" I didn't think of them, they just showed up. From where? Some of them looked at me and some of them appeared to be talking about me. I blew it when i tried to pull the dream in. I could feel the threshhold of the dream and i tried really hard to reach out with my mind to pull it in. It never occured to me to actually walk over to that threshold and try to cross it. That's when the dream ended.

My big question if you are still reading this is..Why did this wild technique work 100 percent the first time i tried but has failed every time since then. I have tried about 10 or so times since then but have not accomplished another full lucid dream. I have however dreamed i was having one, and have been able to actully interfere with the dreams not realizing that i am doing it. I once told myself to do something in the dream but just wasn't aware that it was a dream, but it was a countious thought and desire. My thought was to be telekenetic. I floated a bag of doritos chips off of a shelf over to me. It was awsome. I could feel the connection to the chips. Like my mind was really moving the bag. So what do you think. Got any advice?

      WELCOME TO DREAM VIEWS!!

I am not an expert, but my best guess to explain why you only had luck with the WILD once was because either 1. you got afraid on some level or 2. you got too excited. WILD can be a wonderful method to have lucid dreams (LDs), but not everyone swears by it. I would reccomend developing the habit of doing reality checks and keeping a dream journal. Doing both of those will greatly increase your chances of sucess. A tutorial that covers reality checks (RCs) and dream journaling (DJ) is here:

      Good luck!

      Gidday and welcome to Dreamviews.

You are simply lucky that the WILD worked first time, for most people it does not but it shows you that LDing for you is a reality.

Seekers advise is spot on. You need to get stuck into the two basic skills of dream recall and reality checks and make them a habit. What you want is to automatically do a RC during a dream and that will only occur if its a habit and you will become lucid. I suggest a RC every half an hour.
Anxiety, disappointment, frustration and failure combine to inhibit our chances of success. Stop "trying" to have a LD for a couple of weeks and concentrate on the skills and a LD should come naturally.

You want a simple, inconspicious RC that you can do frequently? Try pushing your tongue through your closed teeth. If you can, then you are dreaming.

      Best wished and good luck.

J_Lucid, first.. welcome to Dream Views!

I'm impressed that you successfully WILDed the first time you tried to.

No technique that I know of works 100 percent of the time (unless you have some "natural" ability). I can do a technique EXACTLY the same two nights in a row.. same sleep conditions.. same mindset, etc. and I will have a WILD one night and not the next.

It's irritating as hell but I know that if I don't get overly "frustrated" and/or "give up".. sooner or later another WILD will happen.
