      Yay! My First LD Ever!

I started trying to have a lucid dream on 6/28/04, and on 7/18/04 at 6:40am I awakened from my very first LD.

Friday night I was out till 3am partying, and didnt get much sleep before going into work saturday morning. When I got home from work around 6pm I took 5mg of melatonin (I have never taken this before) and went straight to sleep. I slept until 10:30pm, and had many very vivid dreams but none lucid, until my roommate woke me for dinner.

I had one beer and smoked a little weed. I usually have three beers every night and a good bit of weed as well so this was an unusually sober evening. I took 5mg of melatonin again and went back to sleep at midnight.

At 6:40am I woke up and got out of bed to use the bathroom. I was contemplating if I should wake up or try one last time to dream tonight. As I was headed back to bed one of my roommates was awake and asked if I had a lucid dream last night, and I realized with amazement that I actually HAD been lucid just before waking up, and I had completely forgotten. : ) After his prompting, I remembered the entire dream, in good detail.

I have been telling my friend/roommate N. about my attempts at lucid dreaming from the beginning, and about a particular dream that I want to have. Two days ago, in the morning over coffee we were discussing our dreams from the night before. I was telling him that I dreamed about being with a girl. He had a dream that was remarkably similar to the one I described wanting to have, odd because its a subject that he is not interested in. He said that in his dream he realized that the situation was similar to what I had described, and he was actually thinking, 'Where is B. at?? This is his dream, he should be here right now." He said he would have much prefered my dream about the girl. : ) We laughed at the irony that he was getting my dreams and i was getting his.

So on to my first lucid dream. Once again I am dreaming that I am making love to a woman -- this time she is black. I have never slept with a black girl before, so when I find myself on my back with her on top of me I want to really study her body and my own feelings/reactions to her. I start to verbally describe what I am I seeing and feeling to myself, silently, in my mind (An old habit of mine: I am constantly writing my life story in my head.) At some point I say to myself, 'Her skin is as warm and dark as oiled mahogany." Its a good line and I'm proud of it. I think its almost poetry. I resolve to remember it later. I carefully hold the words in my mind so I wont lose them.

Now I am really looking at the color and character of her skin, examining her arms, breasts, and legs. I see that her skin really is like mahogany -- a little sheen of sweat has put a gloss finish over not a single color of brown, but many subtle browns, ranging from golden to reddish to ebony black. I perceive layers of color and irridecence, the sort of depth that you see in antique wood finishes. A mole near her shoulder resembles a knot. The texture of her skin, expecially where it is creased near the elbows and wrists, suggests wood grain. A scattering of freckles reminds me of burling in walnut. Her body is lean and muscular, and the overall effect is beautiful and artistic, sculptural in its perfection. Every way that she moves reveals some new intricacy of detail. I am amazed. At some point along the way I forgot that we were in the middle of sex. The dream has become completely visual.

As I marvel at all of this, it dawns on me that this girl really is made of wood. I am seeing a sculpture of incredible workmanship, with a hand rubbed finish worthy of a palace or museum. Now I notice that the graining and knots are very obvious, and I see that her nipples and other features are finely executed inlay work, done in rosewood or cherry, so they show pinkish brown against the richer browns of her skin. I wonder who could have made such a thing.

And now I start to think that something is odd. Wasn't this a girl a minute ago? I remember her on top of me. That happened for sure. And then it hits me: "I am dreaming." Then, "I am lucid!" Then, "Aw, damn, I got N.'s dream again!"

That thought gets me laughing, and I want to make sure that I tell N. about this dream. The next morning I am sitting on the porch with N. and T. describing my first lucid dream in excruciating detail, and laughing that I remembered our joke when I was asleep. We have a twenty minute conversation, which eventually wanders away from my dreams. As it turns out, I never had this conversation, as I was still dreaming, and didn't know it. My first lucidity lasted only about 10 seconds, and I lost it on a false awakening, because I was so eager to share the good news! I am still really happy though.

This morning when T. asked me if I had a lucid dream last night, I had completely forgot the whole thing. Then I remembered the lucid dream, but still had the feeling that the last part of the dream really happened. I said, "Yeah, I did. Didn't I tell you about this already??" It took me a couple of seconds to realize what had happened.

So there ya have it folks, my first lucid dream. Yay!

      Hey, congrats!!!

You know, melatonin/B6 doesn't seem to work for me! Hmm! I'll try tonight without taking it.

Anyway, it's funny how people can so easily FORGET that they had a lucid dream!! Glad you remembered, and good luck with having more!

      Congrats Jesus_Smurf

Personally, I find that lucid dreams are far easier to remember.. perhaps you need to work on your dream recall? You sure wouldn't want to forget all your LD's!!

As for melatonin/B6.... I seem to find that it causes my dreams to be a lot harder to remember for some reason. Either that or gives me dead sleep.
Its not meant to, I know.. but well, what can I say...

Same here! Before I took it, I'd remember my dreams one after the other as soon as I awoke.. boom boom boom! But then when I took it, I had to sit there for a couple of minutes and wait for the memories to come to me.

Congrats on your LD!!!! It's funny how you were so eager to share it that you dreamt this exact scenario in a false awakening...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...
