I'm new here, and trying to figure out what happened~

      Hello.
I am 20 and live in Montana!
I dream a lot, and remember most of them.

A strange experience last night led me to find this forum, because a friend and I couldn't figure out what this dream / experience / whatever? was.

***No I wasn't on any drugs. Or sleep deprived. Or anything like that. I think I just have way too much on my mind and I overloaded or something***

Here's a short shortened version, what I texted to my friend:

      "
indescribable. (she asked what the strange feeling was.. texted her about ~ 4 hours after) i would close my eyes. see shapes changing form. i was like in some..wormhole or something. i felt scared and assured. curiousity and cautiousness, all simultaneously. awake and asleep. honestly. dead but more alive than i have ever felt. ha there is more to it than that. but i felt like i left this world and all known consciousness.
      "
      next one:
      "
and after all that (there was more dreamlike stuff going on) i felt relaxed. like more than ever before, more than any sedative could ever do. i didn't want to leave the feeling for anything.......
      "

I am really weirded out by this. I keep thinking and searching for some sort of explanation.

      Thoughts?

      Vaus,
I don't know what your religious or Spiritual preferences are, but I personally follow the Toltec Tradition. For me, the Dreamtime is intimiately connected with The Great Mystery - or the Nagual - what most Western Religions call "God".

The description you gave of your experience is not uncommon in our tradition and is actually considered to be a link to the Spirit World. The ability to travel in the Nagual and to have impact there is, for many, a fundamental part of the practice of this tradition - it's called "Journeying" and can actually be practiced while awake. Dreamtime journeys are much more vivid, though and may be more powerful.

For purposes of this forum, though, were you aware of your state? Did you recognize you were dreaming?

My spiritual views... I am not sure.
Raised Christian, had a falling out and now I'm a skeptic about everything.
I see settling for a "God" as a dying means to an end, as being lazy and not reaching out for true understanding of what we are capable of understanding.

      Haha I can't really explain.
Well yes, I was fully aware of my state of being. I was sure that I was "just" dreaming until I realized I was experiencing a feeling throughout my whole body, and could control it while I was dreaming.

Like I told her, it was nearly indescribable... as I feel I didn't even scratch the surface of what happened.

I get it. Because I am who I am and relate to the Dreamtime in the way that I do, I take your experience to be a highly spiritual one.

However, these are things you'll have to get on your own. Either way, I agree with you; you haven't even scratched the surface of what has [or can] happen.

      Good luck and good dreaming.

The strange thing is that I didn't try for this.
-I just finished spending time with family, chatting with a good friend.
-Then laid down and the feeling just overcame me, took me by storm about a half hour after getting comfortable.
-Lasted for 3-4 hours, I know this because I went to bed at around 2 am. Then got a text and a call from (the same friend) at around 5-6ish.
-I'm usually up and ready by 7 or 9 at the latest. It took forever to get out of bed (up at around noon time).

      Am I the only one?

      Hi,

As always I'll just say what I think happened. From what you described as being awake and asleep at the same time, I'd say that you were in a hypnagogic state. Between the waking and the dream state. I can't say anything about your feelings or thoughts, because that differs from person to person. Since you say you spent so much time conscious I'm guessing you went in and out of lucidity and dreams while you went through your sleep cylces. I don't know why this happened, this is just speculation. I also have no idea why you were tired in the morning. This might have just happened because of some random favourable sircumstances. All kinds of hallucinations are to be expected in hypnagogia and (ofcourse) dreams.

This happens to me all the time. Especially if I wake up in the middle of the night.

That's what I have to say...
