      Newbie Q about abbreviations

I think DILD is dream initiated lucid dreaming...(is that right?) and if it is what exactly does that mean? I mean the dream initiated part? Also, is there somewhere on this site where I can find a list of the abbreviations? I'm a real newbie and I haven't really figured out the best way to find my way around. If anybody can offer any help, it would be so appreciated. Thanks if advance.

I would, personally, suggest for you to get "Exploring the World of Lucid Dreaming" by Stephen LaBerge. It's everything including an introduction to lucid dreaming, the terminology and a step-by-step guide to get you lucid dreaming. So it's worth reading for any beginner for certain.

There are two basic lucid dream categories:

DILD = Dream Initiated Lucid Dreams
These are dreams, in which you become lucid in the midst of the dream.

WILD = Wake Initiated Lucid Dreams
These are dreams, which you enter directly from the waking state, remaining lucid (aware).

Not induction techniques in themselves, just categories, types of lucid dreams.

And here is the local topic with a detailed list of abbreviations in general.
      Welcome to the forum!

Hey Merlock! Thanks for the friendly welcome, and the VERY helpful link. I am already more in the know than I was 5 minutes ago. I have to admit to being confused at the concept of going into a lucid dream from the waking state...is this rare? I am going to enjoy working on some of these things. I will look for the book the next time I am in town, thanks for the recommendation.

I believe as Freud, that dreams possess information valuable to the dreamer, but disguised in symbology and images. I have been trying to learn about myself thru dreams and have been keeping a journal for a few months.

Is there somewhere on this site where I can look at techniques or discussion of dream symbolism? Coming here feels like the first day of high school for me! So many room, so many conversations at once, all confusing...I am happy to see there is a lot going on here. Have always been fascinated by dreams, but I've only had a half dozen or so lucid ones.

You can find lots of induction methods in Attaining Lucidity and some useful stuff in the Tutorials section.

For dream interpretation, go to the Dream Interpretaton section

Let me (or anyone else) know if there's anything else.

Well, DV means "Dream Views", the name of this site.

And you can use the "Edit" button in your posts to edit a post instead of posting more than once in a row. That's typically the better idea when you want to add something while no one else has posted.

In the average person its almost impossible! Why? Because your mind needs to go to sleep before your body does, as a matter of survival. Think if it occurred the other way around? WILD like tricking your body into thinking you've gone to sleep! Which when you think about it, your trying to trick one part of your body with another.

      Cheers

I'm a bit late here, sorry. Thanks so much for the warm welcomes and assistance.
I did have one WILD, when going back to sleep after about an hour. I was lucid at the start, but it got away from me and turned ugly, and since then I seem unable to do it.
It was in a Metro station, and all the characters were strangers. I wonder where they came from, if in waking life I've never seen them before!
BTW. Snowy Egypt: the likeness is uncanny. how did you know? must have seen me in your dreams!
