Thread: Whats the best way to start?

I'd say the most important thing to consentrate on first would be to get a dream journal going and increase your dream recall. Not much use trying to become lucid if you can't remember it afterwards.

The first thing I would do is read the Quick Sart Guide that is stickied at the top of this Newbie Zone. There is a lot of information about this site along with tutorials that can help you get started.

What I did personally to get started were: reading the tutorials here, reading others' experiences here, keeping lucid dreaming on my brain as much of the day as I could, doing reality checks from time to time (but I didn't overdo this), just plain questioning my state (Am I awake right now? Am I sure?), and that was about it at first.

And by doing this I had my first LD in about three weeks. But everyone varies in the time it takes.

Also I would start a dream journal as soon as you can. I have found that to be very helpful (and fun).

I just wanted to add... from personal experience... heh...

Do NOT get discouraged! It can be hard to remain optimistic if you aren't one of the lucky ones that has an LD almost instantly.... but don't be negative. This is ABSOLUTELY a skill worth learning, and indeed you WILL learn it, if you stick with a method/schedule/etc... and never give up. You WILL be a master.

That's provided it even TAKES you long, which it may not! If it does, take pride in the fact that you worked through it, and that you EARNED it as much as a person possibly could. It makes it that much more special.
