      My first lucid dream

      I had my first lucid dream last night! I had my own way of realizing it was a dream. Right before I went to sleep, I marked my thumb and the back of my right hand. In my dream, neither showed up! I realized it was a dream, but the realizm of it shocked me and I woke up.

      I've tried writing L-U-C-I-D (one letter on each finger) before, didn't work or me tho.

      Brutus, congratulations on your first lucid dream! Now that you know that lucidity is possible, hopefully being "shocked" will be less of a problem and your next lucid dream will last longer!

      Hello and congrats on the lucid dream. And what a clever way to get there. I wish I was as observant as you are.

      Next time try to overpower the shock with awe or appreciation for the dream scene. Hopefully that will anchor you in the dream and it will last longer.

      I woke up right after realizing I was lucid in my first LD (not counting the few I had before I started trying to get them) too. You'll learn to get better control with that pretty quickly, though.
