Exclamation New to LD and have few questions...

Hi i have been reading around the forum for a few days and was very impressed by what i saw. I have loved reading about dreams for about a year now. I have been somewhat recording them and trying to see what exactly they mean through a dream encyclopedia that i own. Recently though i started reading more into Lucid Dreaming and discovered this forum. I did not realize that people where able to have that anytime they wanted with practice.

I guess my goal is to slowly learn how to do this, because it seams extremely interesting and fun. And if you don't mind id also like to ask a few questions (i read the tutorials and all help sections already)

      1. When i sleep is it alright to have music playing, or will that affect my remembering of dreams or LDing?

      2. About how long did it take you to start having Lucid Dream(s)?

Thanks for reading, and i look foward to learning much more about the subject.

Welcome to the forums! This place is great, and if you stick to it, you'll be a pro in no time.

It is very fun indeed. It can be used for fun, creativity, self exploration, and so much more.

Yes, it is fine for you to have music playing. You can actually use this as a dream sign. You could be in the dream and hear the music playing, and it would trigger you to think you're dreaming. Some people use specially made songs for this, even!

The first time I ever heard of lucid dreaming, I had one that next night. This beginner's luck is common though. I then forgot all about it until about a month and a half ago. When I started getting into it this time, it took me about a week and a half, and since then I've had about one a week.

Before you start focusing on getting lucid dreams, you should focus on getting a great recall by keeping a dream journal and writing your dreams down right when you wake up. Once you wake up, try moving as little as possible to gather your memories from your dreams, then once you think you've got them, write them down. If you commit to this and to doing regular RCs, you'll be lucid in no time at all.

Also, once you start to get deeper into it, you can learn to do the various WILD and DILD methods such as FILD, VILD, MILD, WBTB, etc. You can find all of the tutorials for these in the tutorials section.

      Good luck on your dreams!

Thank you very much for fast reply and help. I will put on some Goo Goo Dolls tonight and wake up to my dream journal.

Last few nights though i have not recalled any of my dreams, which was frusterating.

      Welcome, jsrnash12 !

I don't listen to mucis as I sleep, so I'll skip to question #2. It took me about three weeks after finding this site to have my first LD. Before finding this site I had never heard of Lucid Dreaming. I tried for a few weeks with no success and I started questioning whether this was even real. But then I had my first LD, and I was so excited to know that this was possbible...and especially that it was possible for me.

Like you, dreams had always fascinated me and I had fairly good recall. What helped me the most was reading this site often (the tutorials and other people's experiences), keeping LDing on my mind a lot, and thoughout the day questioning if I were dreaming or awake.

You have a headstart because you already have been keeping a dream journal and have been practicing dream recall. That is definitely a plus, because as you do learn how to lucid dream you will remember so much more.

      Good luck...

      Welcome to the forum!

      1. No not at all, you can still lucid dream with music on, infact some people have special mp3 stuff that it supposed to help induce lucid dreaming. I myself have never tried it so I can't tell you how effective it is.

      2. It took me just under 2 weeks of trying to induce a lucid by will. However since joining I just get them all the time now.

      Cool thanks for the advice.

One more question though, well more of a dilemma. Recently i havn't been able to recall ANY of my dreams. This has been happening for like 4-5 days. Is there something i may be doing wrong or does this happen to everyone at some point or another?

When you wake up from your dream state there is something called Rapid-eye movement atonia (REMA) where if you move which you usually may do the motor neurons in your brain fire and your concious body gets into 100% and your sub-concious goes back to being well...sub-concious, below making it harder to remember

If you dont move and just let it all sink in for a moment it helps...I think my recall skills are above-above-average...I can recall 2-5 dreams even if i dont write them down all the way...I can remember things I saw, felt, heard, thought, ate..lol

I use to take a pepsid-complete and two liquid ibroprofen before sleep..I have began to drink sugar-cane juice, my Dominican grand mother gave me some, has some wierd disarming effect...drank it while sitting down in my bed and felt sort of...woozy, not sick woozy but sort of loss of conciousness...like getting tackled by an MLB just after getting the ball snapped to you...ow!

Other than the REMA w/ the motor neurons I dont know any other technical stuff...try eating blueberries something in them helps you w/ memories...I eat them anytime i get for about 2 years now...i can recall stuff from WAY back now

Good luck LD'ing im hoping all i learned today and from my sister who seems to be a natural-LD mega-diety will help me

      Thanks for the help Axiom.

Also i smoke marijuana about 2-3 times a day, (usually an hour or so before i go to bed also) does this negitivly affect anything? (Without it i sometimes have a VERY hard time falling asleep)

Is there something i may be doing wrong or does this happen to everyone at some point or another?
I think it happens to a lot of people. I know it happens to me. I have been trying to notice a pattern when it happens, and have come up with the following possible reasons: 1. I'm not getting enough sleep. 2. I have lots of stressful things going on that my mind jumps to when I first wake up. 3. I'm not taking my vitamins regularly.

TheOneAxiom has some good ideas. I have noticed that when I immediately think about my dreams when I first start to wake I do remember much better. So that is important to remember.
