      Question

Before I heard about all this dream stuff I would occasionaly fall asleep and dream i was running or trying to pick somthing heavy up, i wasnt concious of the fact that I was dreaming and when I woke up i would kick or throw my arms up trying to do what i was doing in my dream? Is this normal?

      Sorry Im horrible at spelling...

      Maybe.

There's something common called a "Hypnic Jerk". Try looking it up - though you won't find much more than a description. It's when you "wake up with a jerk", just after you've fallen asleep, and it's often associated with a dream fragment (falling, falling off a bike, tripping up...).

I've not heard of it being associated with a specific motion. I think it's normally described as a general jolt / muscle spasm, not something specific that's related to the dream. Maybe you just have more specific falling-asleep dreams than most people; maybe you are different.

I think this does sound a lot like a hypnic jerk though. As I say, that doesn't help much because they're not well understood, but they're definitely not unusual.

Oh, and the not realising you're dreaming bit is definitely like a hypnic jerk. You sort of start dreaming without realising it, right?

P.S. Try harder finding thread titles :-). Just something lame like "Question: Strange thing that happened to me when falling asleep" would be nice. I know it's hard to pin something like this down in the title, but if you make an effort to find a longer title then it's easier to find / remember in future etc.

Yeah i havent yet had a lucid dream, just before i was laying down on my keyboard listing to music infront of my computer and i dozed off. I had a very small blurry dream where i Hi-5d someone on my icehockey team and as soon as i did it i woke up and my arm kind of.....jerked, so yeah that sounds right ill try to do some more reaserch. And ill try to make more specific titels in the future, thanks for the help.
