      Got some questions regarding dreams

      Hey guys/gals

I've recently started researching lucid dreaming and have luckily stumbled upon this site.

I've got a few questions regarding dreaming.

      1. Whenever I sleep I don't generally "see" my dreams, although they are obviously happening I can't "see" them. Only rarely I do. So, do you have any tips on this, because how can I recall my dreams when I don't even "see" them?

      2. I'm a little confused as to how to gain "control" of your dream. For instance, last night I had some really weird dream but I thought it was the real world which is strange seeing as if it's out of the ordinary you're then supposed to realise it's a dream and gain lucidity.

      Thanks in advance.

Hi Sasso, welcome to DV! I believe we all "see" out dreams, but with varying degrees of clarity. I find much more difficult to recall a vague dream than a clearly detailed dream. We all have our "natural" level of dream clarity, and for some dreams are generally vivid and for others, not that much so.

The good news for those who suffer lack of clarity (which I believe contributes greatly to lack of recall) is that members of these forums have found over and over that these things can be improved with study and practice. There are many folks active in these forums who can help with advice and guidance, and nobody needs to feel that their question is too basic or inmaterial. You'll get all the help you can handle.

Our brains are programmed to "suspend disbelief" while dreaming. The natural lucid dreamer, for whatever reason, has the God-given aptitude to spot things in dreams that tip them off to the dream. Again, more good news... this too can be improved with study and practice.

I'm a natural lucid dreamer myself, but I've read message upon message at DV from people who became interested in dreaming, and in a short time (under a year) have come a very long way. Even as a natural, I've learned things here that have helped me to better explore my dreams.. whether they be non-lucid or lucid.

      Thanks for the reply.

So when I go to bed tonight (in about 30 mins), what should I think about?

Like are there any sort of things I should be thinking over and over before a fall asleep?

Think about lucid dreaming. a lot.
Be confident that you will have one.
And keep a dream journal. Not only does it help you remember your dreams, but helps puts you into that dreaming frame of mind and will help with becoming lucid.

Often people will have a lucid the first night they start learning about them. So keep that in mind and be confident that you'll be one of those people.
If your not, don't let it get to you, you will get there at some point.

      Thanks for the reply.

And thankyou for the useful tips.
      I've got another question.

I see alot of the acronyms such as DILD and DEILD and FAT etc etc.

I'm somewhat confused as to what these have to do with lucid dreaming.

EDIT: Well I'm off to bed now.

      Wish me luck.

They are techniques for inducing lucid dreams.
      Dream Induced Lucid Dream (DILD)
      Wake Induced Lucid Dream (WILD)
Dream Exit Induced Lucid Dream (DEILD)
and many more. I'm not even sure what FAT is, I haven't looked into it.
But you can find out in the tutorials section, as well as learn what all the techniques are and how to try them

      Hmm ok.

Well I had the strangest experience last night.

I had a pen and paper for dream recall writing down thing, and I fell asleep around the 10:30pm to 11:00pm area. Now I woke up at about 2am and I remembered writing down something about my dream on the pad. Now I thought I wrote something down on the pad in real life. But I didn't. So it was in the dream. But now I've forgotten a lot of the dream and I only remember writing something down on the pad.

The only thing is I didn't really "see" my dream. Like I fell asleep, then woke up, without "seeing" my dream.

Maybe I'm saying this because I don't remember my dream. Ah well.

EDIT: Ok here's a better explanation of my problem.
Ok my problem is I don't have very good dream clarity. Can someone give me tips on improving this?

Also. I'm a little confused as to how DILD works.
