      First Lucid Dream!!

Ok so here is my tale,
i got introduced to lucid dreaming by watching Waking Life about 6 weeks ago. Ever since i saw that movie i was fascinated by the idea, i tried doing it myself but with no success. I read something about it on the internet like a week ago but still really didnt get the concept of inducing them. I read all this site had to offer about 3 days ago (excluding the forums; new to these) and was practicing reality checks and what not. i have been keeping a dream log for about 3 days as well. Well last night i did indeed become lucid! I was having some wierd dream (mine are always bazaar) i was inside of a video game and then randomly outside behind a house next to my bike, i asked myself if i was dreaming, and i came to realize i was. I then felt myself starting to lose lucidity because i was getting sidetracked in my dream. I reminded myself i was dreaming and I tried to do the spinning technique I spun around about 3 times and fell down on top of my bike. And woke up in another dream. I had about 3 dreams afterwards but none were lucid but i remember them pretty vividly.

So I guess now that i can figure out when im dreaming i just need to practice staying lucid right?

Thanks for reading my wall of text and poor grammar! Please give me any tips suggestions stories or anything! I am so excited about this and want to experiment with it

Icky, congratulations on your first lucid dream!

I recommend getting used to what being lucid FEELS like by grounding yourself in your dreams.

I know when I first become lucid, I have to fight that initial rush of adrenalin. I do this by telling myself to calm down, breathing naturally (or a little slower) and I try to "ground" myself in the dream (i.e., make it as lucid as it can be) instead of immediately racing to do something before I lose lucidity.

One of the tricks I use to "ground" myself is to "touch" things. By touching.. I mean really "feeling" them. Get into how they feel.. are they hot, cold, smooth, rough, etc. (this also increases the vividness of the dream along with helping me remain in it longer).

You may also try to increase your vividness by confidently stating aloud "increase lucidity" or "clarity now".

Just remember that "the deeper the level of lucidity.. the better your lucid experience should be".

Oh, and welcome to Dream Views!

      Welcome Icky...

Congrats on your lucid dream! Sounds like your effort paid off.

As far as statying lucid. I agree with Clairity. Touching things is helpful. I often just hold out my arms a little and just rub up and down my arms with my hands. Feeling that sensation usually grounds me in the dream.

Another thing I have found that helps is to go to bed with a specific goal in mind. Then when I become lucid, that goal usually comes to mind pretty quickly, and I am able to focus on doing that goal.

As you practice and have more LDs you will find the tricks that work best for you.

      Good luck!

      Thumbs down

Hello, welcome and congrats on the lucidity.

About staying lucid, there is the hand rubbing method as well. I've tried it before, it's simple and it works.

Good luck with longer bouts of lucidity.

What the heck is that little red thing up in the corner of my post...

      EEP.

I don't remember clicking that. And just to clear things up... I've now given a thumbs up.

That thumbs down thing looks more like an internal organ with an artery hanging off if it, to me.
