      Hi all, strange experience.

      Just thought i'd say hi.

I have been interested in the idea of lucid dreaming for a while now but up until this point i have done nothing about it. Thats all going to change, i'm taking this seriously now and i hope to start a dream journal tonight, how exciting.

Anyway, i have had one lucid dream experience that i am aware of.
I had been talking with friends about lucid dreaming during the day, later that night whilst having a fairly dark and unpleasant dream, i thought to myself "i wonder if i am dreaming"

At that point i became aware that i was in a dream but i instantly felt a very strange, almost painful sensation in my head which woke me up. It was simultaneously quite a scary and exciting experience, but i haven't allowed it to put me off the whole idea.

I have no idea if this is a common sensation to experience during a lucid dream, if any of you guys can help me understand what happened as well as advise me about lucid dreaming in general, that would be great.

to the Forum, man! Glad you finally started lucid dreaming.

As for your question, yes, that is fairly common in your 1st lucid. Many people get so excited that they're finally having a lucid dream, that their conscious kicks in and wakes you up. The "strange, almost painful sensation" was sleep paralysis. It's the thing that keeps you from moving around while you're dreaming.

For more info about Lucid dreaming, check the Tutorials forum or the DV main page.

      Hope this helps!

The weird sensation was your brain trying to figure out what had just happened. The lucid dream was in a brand new state of mind and it got scared so it improvised and woke you up.

Thank you all for being so welcoming. I will be sure to use the search function next time i have any queries, i was just so excited about finding this site. Also i will check out those links Clairity.

After browsing around a little, i have come to the conclusion that i did experience sleep paralysis and i now remember the unpleasant feeling of "having someone sat on my chest" it was incredibly scary seeing as i had no idea what was going on but now i am just fascinated.

My dream journal is not of to a good start, a late night and heaving drinking prevented me from caring, but i am excited about starting it tonight!
