      Welcome to Dream Views.
Be sure to read the "What is Lucid Dreaming' section of the link Wavefunction provided. It should answer your question adequately.

And just out of curiosity, why would you join a message board when you don't know what it's about?

Welcome to Dreamviews! Lucid, or lucid dreaming, is being aware, or knowing that you are dreaming. This lets you control your dreams and do virtually anything you want while dreaming.

I have read that section I know what it's about. Thanks.

I was hoping for opinions on what people consider to be lucid. I know the original definition. People have different views. According to my dreams lucidity tends to vary in degree so I was actually curious more about the thoughts people had on the term lucid.

I see lucidity as a very simple definition, tinged by certain philosophical uncertainties. I'm not convinced by descriptions of different "levels" of lucidity. I wouldn't claim it's a black and white distinction, but I haven't seen anyone make a serious attempt at justifying particular categories.

For me, there's real rush when I become lucid in a dream (DILD) - and I don't think that's just because I don't do it very often. "I'm dreaming" is really a very strange and unusual thought to be having.

On the other hand, when I've had a very short, not particularly vivid WILD, I find it harder to take it seriously (as being a lucid dream). You start off lucid instead of realising it in a jolt. If you wake up almost immediately then without the "lucidity jolt", there's not as much to separate it from a non-lucid dream.

You heard it here first: sourcejedi says DILDs can be more exciting than WILDs :-D.
