      Question Something odd...

I have been reading these forums for about 3 months now, and I have been trying to lucid dream but have yet to be successful.

I am trying to DILD, but every time I try, I cannot seem to enter the "dream state."

I can induce SP, and feel my body going numb, and occasionally I see colorful patterns on my eyelids, but I can never "enter" a dream.

Any suggestions/hints on how to enter a dream or if I should do something different?

to DreamViews... (Yes, that was the first time I welcomed someone)
I think you're confusing a DILD with a WILD... A DILD is when someone becomes lucid after falling asleep unconsciously...

If you haven't already, I would like at Seeker's WILD technique... I'm a huge fan...

The DILD is Dream Induced Lucid Dream, which is simply realizing you're dreaming while Dreaming. Which, as Nightlife said, you're confusing with the WILD. The WILD is very difficult for beginners, so if you're just starting out you may want to try some simpler methods and techniques.

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

I agree with Exo, WILD probably isn't your best bet if you're just starting with lucid dreaming. Reality checks and keeping a dream journal are something you should always be doing, also many people find MILD with WBTB to be very effective. MILD is fairly easy, especially compared to WILD.

      Welcome to the forum!

Well you need to be patient with the lucid dreaming, it takes time to do. Stay positive! As the other people have said, a DILD is a spontanious lucid dream and is what naturals tend to have. To be honest with DILDs you shouldn't really experience SP. If you are considering a WILD then I'd strongly suggest against it as it can be difficult and put people off if they don't LD from it. I always recommend doing a WBTB with a MILD.

      Hi 182!

If you really can induce the SP, then all you have to work on crossing over that threshold which allows you to pull in your consciousness with you. Think of the colorful patterns and all as the 'dream' part of you, and the paralysis as your 'awake' or 'real' part of you. Imagine there's a wall before you which moves from side to side depending on whether you're mostly in 'dream' mode, or 'awake' mode. In this wall there is a small gap, just wide enough for 'you' to fit through. This gap lines up directly in front of you ONLY when you are in perfect balance between dream and waking.

      V---------------------------------WALL---------------------------V

      <--dream---------------- GAP(balance) ------------- awake-->

So, the object is to get that 50/50 balance, step through the gap, and be in a lucid dream!

My guess is that once you start seeing the patterns, you're gettin anxious about entering a dream lucidly (happens to most people, including me). So, what you have to do is let go a bit - LET it happen. You risk falling to sleep, but if you get too anxious you also risk killing the entire experience and waking up completely. Frustration will make it even more difficult to fall back to sleep.

      Welcome.
I guess you mixed them up as someone else said. When you do WILD and cannot enter dreamstate you should try to do a WBTB. if you still can't enter dreamstate you should have a shorter WBTB.

You should also understand that WILD is a very advanced technique, and you may find success with another technique.
You do this every fucking time.
      No sweat.
      No tears.
      No guilt.
You do this every fucking time.

From my understanding, what I have been trying to do IS DILD, not WILD.

I have been attempting to enter a lucid dream while dreaming, using a DILD tutorial I found on this site.

Tornado Joe, thank you for your input!

I will try to imagine the wall tonight, and hopefully I will become lucid.
