      Quick LDs?

      Hi all.

I had my first brief LD yesterday and am really excited. The thing though, is that it was really short. Once I became aware I was dreaming I woke up.

My dreams are usually really short dreams and I'm a light sleeper as it is. I'm wondering since I'm such a light sleeper and all, will my LD's be short ones? Also, I drink a lot of caffine (Pepsi)... does that have an effect on being able to LD?

      Thanks!

Hey RELOAD - Welcome to DreamViews !
      I like the avatar

Personally, I find caffiene to hold me back a bit... but not enough to prevent an LD altogether.

Your short dreams might simply be because you aren't remember the entire dream. I suggest you read up on dream recall and use a dream journal for a while before rushing to conclusions.

If you do find that you have a sleep disorder of some sort, you could consider using melatonin pills to clean up your sleep cycles.
As always, make sure you understand what it does and what it's for (google.com )

      Heya RELOAD!

You're probably having short dreams because you're a light sleeper. The longer we sleep, the longer our REM cyles become: thus we have longer dreams!

You can also read a lot about dreams here:

I'm an EXTREMELY light sleeper too. If my door is open, I will probably wake up to someone tip toeing through the hall way. You WILL have longer LDs if you are anything like me. My first LD was also about 30 seconds long and I remember as I was diving through the window I woke up (my mom might have woken me up by turning on the light because I saw a bright flash of light, but I know I would've woken up really fast anyway). So, you'll get longer LDs soon.

I'm so close to another LD (I haven't had a LD for months and months because I stopped dream journaling and reality checking, just today I hate a dream where I said something was a dream but didn't become lucid) I'm so excited!

I was trying it today, but it seems after I had my first LD that it was hard for me to get back to sleep. Maybe I was concentrating too hard. I'll keep trying though...

yeah that is pretty cool lucid

anyway i believe im a light sleeper to. I remember i was having a lucid dream once in my parents bed(no, i wasnt sleeping with them. they were already out of bed. my bother was snoring so friggin loud, i couldnt stay in the room anymore) and my mom walked in the room, which immediately woke me up(heard the squeky noises)

back on topic: not all dreams are short. some are long, vivid, vague, etc. dont worry one day you'll experience that long super-vivid dream. incredible experience btw.

i dont know the effects of drinking caffeine before going to bed..it'll probably just make sleeping harder, or it'll put you in a light sleep

oh yeah welcome to dreamviews. now be mesmorized by my puppets' dance

      WELCOME RELOAD!!!!!

From what I understand caffein can indeed help you when you are WILDing but the result vary for each individual. I don't really know how long your dream can be, all I suggest is that whenever you feel like you are waking up in an LD, you try and grip the dream reality, by doing something that will excersize your senses, like spinning, rubbing your hands or grabbing on to something.
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

      Thanks for the replies!!

I'm going to be writing in a dream journal (even though I can recall my dreams I have most nights already) along with reality checks, and the WBTB method together.
