Just relax more, if you go to bed stressing that you're going to have a lucid dream than you probably aren't. Most of my lucid dreams come accidentally.

As for staying in a dream. I use a method that's very different from everyone else's. Read the tutorial on DEILD. If you feel your lucid dream ending, let it end, but after you wake up, don't open your eyes or move a muscle. Your mind thinks that it woke up prematurely and immediately goes back into a dream.

Shoot for the moon, even if you miss it you will land among the stars.

I don't personally use audio for my dream journal, but it's a perfectly good way to do it. Especially because most people can talk faster than they can write, which is a large benefit when it comes to remembering your dreams - the faster you can write them down (or record them), the better.
