Unhappy I need help, I keep falling asleep!

I have studied lucid dreaming alot, and I had one several years ago before I even knew about lucid dreaming. I have decided to keep trying, and I know that it can take a while before I actually have a lucid dream. I am trying the WILD technique, and have been for the past 3 days. I lay down on my back because I usually sleep on my stomach. I relax and focus on relaxing every part of my body from my head to my toes. I have started to see light patterns several times, and I felt numb another, I start to count and say that I am dreaming after that. After I start counting, I go right to sleep without obtaining lucidity and wake up the next morning frustrated. I have started a dream journal, and I have been very good at remembering my dreams so far. Does anybody know what I can do to stop from going straight to sleep?

      -P.S.- I am a pretty heavy sleeper...

      Welcome to Dreamviews!

Are you waking up 5-6 hours after first going to sleep and then trying to WILD? If you're not, do so. Sleep for 5-6 hours, stay awake for about 10-20 minutes, and then WILD. This will align you with your REM periods, making WILDing much easier.

      Waking up 5 hours later

I have tried this by setting my alarm clock for 5 hours later... I slept right through it and woke up at 6 that morning while it was still going off. What are some other ways to wake up?

You can try autosuggestion - simply repeating to yourself as you go to sleep that you'll wake up five hours later. This can be a very effective technique.

Also, try putting your alarm clock under your pillow - it's nearly impossible to sleep through that.

Why are you lying on your back? There are no rules to say you must WILD on your back... If it is more comfortable for you to do it on your stomach then do it like that
