Hello hello, I'm in a bit of trouble

I've been registered on this forum for a little while now, yet I haven't really had the opportunity to post much considering the amount of work and school that's been keeping me back from the things I enjoy no differently than a ball and chain could.

Yet I still remain absolutely intrigued and fascinated by the phenomena that is lucid dreaming. Ever since I properly figured out what it was, I've been completely determined to lucid dream myself.

Being a diehard fan of the movie Waking Life, and owning some strange Lucid dreaming induction .mp3's that were originally derived from a tape would probably automatically make you assume I've been able to achieve lucidity, yet sad enough I can't do it! I'm starting to think it has something to do with my ADD..

I really was just looking for people's opinions.. What kinds of methods work best? What made you originally achieve lucidity? Please lucid dreamers, I would absolutely love to join you all in your seemingly epic adventures but unfortunately I've yet to deliberately lucid dream.

Anyway, I would appreciate advice from anyone willing to give it, for I am in need of help. I figure the more knowledgeable I am about it, the more motivated and determined I will become in eventually consciously dreaming.
Cheers, I look forward to posting here frequently if things turn out OK

      Hey Sony86.

Well, to cheer you up a little bit, fear not... it doesn't have anything to do with ADD. I have the case of ADD myself and have been able to have a few lucid dreams. I haven't had one in a while, but I'm getting back in the rhythm and will be having another one sometime soon I imagine.

As far as techniques go, its basically whatever works for you, but, since you haven't had a lucid dream yet, it may be hard for you to know what works for you. Tell us a little bit about yourself and we might be able to help you a bit better with some tips or words of wisdom.

What I'm curious is (and I don't mean for this to sound like an interrogation hehe):
      * How is your dream recall? If it's not good, then you should work on that first.
      * Do you keep a dream journal? It can help you a lot in the long run.
      * How close have you gotten to lucid dreaming before? Many people have had dreams where they think something is strange or different, but fail to do a reality check or become lucid. Even though it's really frustrating, this is very, very close to becoming lucid and you should take that as an accomplishment when this happens to you.
      * Have you ever considered taking some vitamins to aid you in dreaming? Melatonin can help you fall asleep, and vitamin B-6 can help you with dream recall, vividness, and even becoming lucid. You can take a look at the pharmacy to learn a bit more about some vitamins that might aid you.

Lastly, my first lucid dream experience came about when I gave a break to smoking pot. My dream recall shot through the roof and my motivation followed. My first lucid came about 3 weeks later. That's one of the reasons why I'm quitting smoking right now. Lucid dreaming is my anti-drug.

Anyway, good to hear from you again. I hope you can get your first lucid very soon.

I'm working on becoming lucid too man, and it isn't easy! All I can tell you is that I started a dream journal and it helps you recall dreams better, and maybe notice patterns in your dreams. By recalling your dreams better I don't mean that if you keep one then you'll start remembering your dreams better (you might, but that isn't whats happening to me) but your dreams that you DO record, you will remember better. Also start doing reality checks, I haven't started doing these yet but I plan on starting tomorrow. Just keep it up and understand that it's something that might not come so easily. good luck bro

Thank you so much for quite a meaningful/insightful response.

To answer your questions (which I have absolutely no problem doing) I have had maybe one or two lucid dreams as far back as I can remember. All I know is, they didn't last long and they were a while ago.

As for my dream recall, at this stage it is somewhat mediocre because I do not currently put in the effort which is a dream journal but I plan to start soon.

I've never considered taking minerals/vitamins to aid the process but it sounds like a good idea.

Maybe If I stopped smoking so much Ganje my memory would thank me Seems like that was the case in your words. Maybe not smoking so much will help..

As for a rundown of how I think my head works, I know when motivated I am very achieving. When not motivated I'm close to useless. Motivation is rewarding I suppose.

I know concentrating before I sleep is nearly impossible because my mind is constantly racing from one thought to another, seemingly always or at least when I'm not sleeping. Keeping my attention focused purely on one thing is incredibly hard for me, especially if kept mental. My mind gets distracted more times a day than I care to mention (that's where the ADD comes in) I don't mind it so much because in my honest opinion I think that thinking more can only make you smarter even if you can't focus or pay attention.

[But hey that's just me trailing off into another subject again ]

Despite my constant attempts, I've never been able to deliberately lucid dream - at least when I tried using the WILD technique and listening to induction .mp3s.

I guess I could say I'm a bit clueless as to where to effectively start..

Hi and welcome to Dream Views.

If it's a method you're looking for, try the Wake Back To Bed technique. Many people have success with it, even beginners. The technique is found in the tutorials section of the site.

Good luck waking in a dream and looking forward to hearing about your LD adventures.

I'm diagnosed, certified (and, many say, certifiable) and proudly ADD.

I lucid dream. In fact, I was a natural as a child and never understood what was going on.

WBTB seems to be among the most reliable and easiest ways to drastically enhance your chances of getting lucid. Don't give up! I don't believe there is any such thing as a person who can't do this, short of somebody who doesn't dream at all or is utterly incapable of dream recall. (Did a tree really fall in your lucid dream if you can't remember it?)

Thanks man I'll start experimenting with the WBTB technique. Does anyone have good links that link to something that describes/explains this method thoroughly?

WBTB hasn't worked for me so far.. It seems like I still need to improve on my dream recall a bit. And waking up after sleeping (It's damn hard! My room gets hella cold! )

Just be sure to keep a Dream Journal. So far my attempted WBTB and WILDs are usually failures. So when I do reality checks and other techniques to help the possible introduction of a DILD its quite enjoyable when you become lucid in the middle of the night unexpectedly (well, almost).
Anyway, I think the most important think about LD's is BEING DETERMINED. If you don't WORK for your LD's you wont get any. You reap what you sow, I believe the saying goes. Plus, if you REALLY, REALLY, want a LD I'd reccomend spending a day (or at least a little while) reading the different tutorials on the forums here. And maybe try some techinques that you think will suit you.

Best of luck + welcome to the forums
