      My Reality Check Problem

Hello, everybody. I have been a member here for almost two weeks and I have been doing my DJ. However, I didnīt have a Reality Check set up.

Yesterday, I thought to myself that I could use my digital watch as an RC, since I look at it several times a day (I look at it a lot, actually).

So last night, I tried Adamīs Technique (i think its Adam), to wake up 5h after I went to bed and only stay up for a few minutes. However, when I tried his technique, I didnīt do it right (or was too tired) and fell asleep.

But, I did have a very long dream and I remember pretty much everything about it. But the thing is, in the dream, I was talking too someone inside a bus. Then, that person disappeared and I thought to myself: Did her bus stop come already?

So i thought it was strange and I decided to look at my watch (I didnīt awake in my dream or thought about doing an RC, it was just a reflex - or was it the beginning of lucidity?) ant it said 19:38.

Doesnīt people say that when dreaming a watch never tells the right time (itīs always 238:576 or something)? So, does this method of RC not work for me, was it a one time thing or maybe I need to remember to check it twice and see if it changes? Thanks in advance for the help.

Even though people will tell you that this and that won't work in dreams (like light switches and digital watches), this is not always true. I guess those can be seen as a general rule, with exceptions. Digital watches/alarm clocks usually function as normal to me, too.

You should try out a different RC. My favorite (and I only do this in dreams to make sure I'm dreaming) is the nose RC. Close your mouth and pinch your nose, and see if you can still breathe. If you are still able to breathe, you are dreaming. Again, it's not guaranteed to work, I've seen people here post that they were unable to breathe even when dreaming.

At least you suceeded to do a RC in a dream, which is progress. Now it's about finding a RC that works for you.

      Good luck!

Thanks for the quick reply. I just wanted for the watch RC to work becuase I look at it all the time. So when I find a new one, should I practice all the time or should I wait for a strange thing to happen (like deja vu)?

I had my first lucid last night it was a WILD and to prove that I was actually having a lucid dream I looked at my digital clock it read 7:67, it didn't occur to me at the time that you can't have 67 minutes in an hour. However, I looked back a few seconds later and it just read 17 (again this is not a proper time), it was the sudden, unexplained change which worked for me; perhaps you should try looking at your watch twice and who knows maybe next time your watch will show an improper time. Congratulations on managing to do an RC even if it was unsuccessful.

Yeah, I think that´s the best thing for me. I´m kind of a freak when it comes to time, and I look at the watch a "gazillion" times a day. I´ll start looking at it twice everytime to create the habit. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, RCs should be practiced, or you might not remember to do it in a dream. If you don't want to give up on the digital watch RC, it is a good idea to look at it twice to see if it changes. Also, it's not a bad idea to use more than one RC, as long as you don't get confused.

You can still use the watch. Look at the time, then glance away for a few seconds. When you look back the time will probably be different if it's a dream.

Edit: Oops, someone already said this. Ah, well...

When ever I do a RC, I try to think of how it works. For example, if I were to do the holding breath RC. Then I would think "if I can breathe then I'm dreaming and if I can't breathe then I'm not dreaming" I don't know if anybody else does this so please tell me if you do.
