This isn't really an OMG FIRST LD because I just remembered it and it wasnt really OMG at the time, I didn't know what the heck was going on. I don't even know if it was an LD or if it was something else.

Well I basically had an attack of sleep paralasys, especially bad this time, and I tried moving myself, I felt like I could move my limbs but my vision had a strobe, my arms were very heavy and hard to move, like wax, I'm not sure if I moved them but I could see something moving, like a shadow. I actually got out of bed I remember, I pulled myself up, I was very slow, cumbersome, hard to walk...I tried to walk towards my door to get some help or something but I slipped and fell over sideways as if a force was pulling me down on my side. I woke up and I was in my bed with covers on top of me as if I had never left. Was this a dream?

Yes. This is a false awakeing. You felt the effects of sleep paralysis and dreamt of trying to wake up out of it. This is pretty common and can be very surreal and freaky. It happened to me one time 3 times in a row. On the third one though I was able to achive lucidity, so it might do the same for you. Say you false awake in your room, but you see that something is out of wack (like your dresser is on the floor instead against a wall, or the walls painted a different color, a mirror where there shoudn't be one), and you realize your dreaming. Do a reality check just to make sure of course. After that, the possibilitiues are endless.

the problem with me and lucid dreaming is, that if i see something is really freaky or out of whack like you said, it comes off as nightmareish to me and i easily freak out or panic. several lucid dreams i've had i realized i was dreaming simply because they were boring as hell dreams where nothing special was happening. my only thought then of corse was to wake up (succeeding). do'h

If thats the case, try spinning around. I've done this before and it changes the enviroment/scenery. Like for me, in my first ld (which you will find in this thread), i was in my old school, spun around, and found myself in a gospel church of somekind. This will not increase lucdity or vividness like suggested in the site, but it does change the enviroment. Also try flying, it kicks ass.

I did fly! In my DILD, I thought "I'll go see my girlfriend!" and I flew through the ceiling and around but it was dark so I couldn't see very well but I remember the feeling I got was incredible. I want to do it again.

Wel I might as well post my first LD since joining the forum:

I was in my room and I turned on my light and it did not work, I got excited in realising that this must be a dream. Then everything went blank and I was in another dream - a dream within a dream. I was outside my old house and there were two friends sitting on the wall - one from old school and one from new school - and I asked them how do I fly in a dream. They just laughed at me and ran away leaving me to run around jumping and falling untill I woke up.

I was slightly annoyed by this dream - I made a couple of posts about it (how naïve I was :/)

I had my first LD tonight!
It was really long for a first LD.

It started from a nightmare, and other stuff had happened before, but the most vivid part was when two giant flaming asteroids were going to crash into each other. One instead went for my house, and I could see it through my bed room window. Right when I was supposed to think "I'm gonna die" I suddenly realized that it was a dream and suddenly everything went dark. Then I was in my bed and I still knew it was a dream. I was afraid the nightmare would return but it didn't. So I got up and decided I would try to do stuff. I tried what I told myself I would do if I became lucid, which was to break things. I ripped a hole in my blinds and tried to break a glass cup but was immediately bored with this and went downstairs and into my living room. Everything was brighter now, like morning. My mom came out of her bedroom and into the living room where my brother was. She said "I don't know how you managed to read that comic book last night," which I think had a plot similar to my dream. I think this reminded me of my lucidity so I immediately walked into the kitchen. I remembered the RC for clocks and decided to test that theory since I knew it was a dream. Sure enough, the clock changed. Then I realized that it was supposed to be morning but it was the wrong time anyway, and that all the clocks in the room were set at different times. I then walked through the dining room and the foyer and walked straight through my closed front door. I went down my porch steps and felt the grass, trying to feel the texture, but I gave up on that. I was kind of disappointed that I didn't "feel" much. I went to my coldesac and almost tried spinning but remembered it could make you lose lucidity so I decided not to. I tried breathing through my nose when it was pinched and that worked. Then I proceeded to run really fast, jump into the air and do flips. That was cool because I could decide to flip mid-jump. Someone might have seen me but I didn't pay attention to them and did another jump with a flip. When I was done, I noticed I was in a city and started running through it and looking at the streets. I noticed cars driving by. I stood still for a moment and thought about just how awesome it was to be lucid. Then I felt that the dream was falling away very quickly, and I let it do so because I was already impressed and wanted to write it down. Then I woke up.

Somewhere in the dream I also tested the hand-through-palm check, but found that nothing really happened.

I was so excited that I could actually have an LD and was impressed by it's length, my control, how well I could remember to check all the RCs, and how I managed to keep lucidity the whole time. The only thing that could have been better was if I could feel more senses. Despite this the dream was consistently vivid.

I woke up at like 6:02 and decided to write in my journal and then post on this forum, so now it's 6:52 am. I knew I'd be too exited about my dream to fall back asleep anyway until I wrote it down and posted it. Sorry if it doesn't make any sense since it's still early. I guess I ought to go back to bed before I get tired today.

I DID IT! I HAD MY FIRST WILD! ON ACCIDENT TOO! i remember thinking about my girlfriend and some arcade game and i had a quarter in my mouth and i spit it out and my friend started laughing then i got these weird shakes and vibrations, it was very quick and vivid....it was also, very, well...erotic feeling!

this is what i jotted down on text pad so i wouldnt forget the details when i woke up. it was a very short, fast pased dream without much meaning.

"i was thinking about jamie and sarah and spitting quarters i got shakes and then i was shaking around on the ground like crazy with no order and then i got up and started going down the hall and i tried to walk but i felt like a pile of glue but then i flew and was screaming "INCREASE LUCIDITY!" and then i kept on flying and i landed and i was really lucid and i was in a materials-crowded office with busy sounding voices in the background that almost reminds me of the guidance office (at school) and i was trying to take complete control of my dreams by imaging things...but it didnt work then i woke up."

but my god that was the most incredible feeling ever! i want to do it again!

it was very sensual for some reason. the shakes were scary and unpleasant at first i was probably going into sleep paralasys but then i let go and it just became very pleasant and pleasureful.

edit: i just remembered, my voice sounded like Jerry Seinfeld's.

but im not sure what made last night different...i was listening to a youtube video of a soul journey or something weird like that having to do with astral spirituality and i was trying to start doing OBEs with the spirit guide in the video and it sorta worked but not really so i gave up and i started to go to sleep and i suddenly got these shakes....and i realized what was happening...but like, my whole body was shaking uncontrollably for maybe 20 seconds in the dream, like rolling on the floor having my libs move in impossible positions without me doing anything...what was all this about? is this normal for WILD? does anybody have any idea as to what may have helped along my WILD?

by the way...sorry about sounding so weird in that last post, i was overtired/excited at the same time. an interesting mix.

      LD

I've determined that I've had at least a few LDs in the past, I just wasn't enlightened as to what they were until a friend introduced this to me recently.

      Really, most of my LDing comes if I sleep during the day, y'know, to pass time or if I had a late shift or a night-shift... I guess it's a combination of a more necessary, deeper sleep and a sense of escapism. I can remember one distinctly, because it was only a week and a half ago;

I was walking in a forest, not far from my house, when I started being chased by a wolf. Normally, fear would've kicked in, but I stopped myself, and went to go pet the wolf. (This is the point where I became lucid... a reality-check confirmed this; it went from 4:33 to 5:45 and then 3:22 =S).
Anyways, it turned out the wolf was hungry and lonely, so I shared some food with him and we chatted. He just wanted to learn how to dance. Go figure. I remember telling him I wasn't a good dancer, and he just kind of woofed at me, and then I woke up.

It was very odd. But just being able to control that conversation with the wolf, going against my fears, etc... it was thrilling. When I woke up, it was only 1:30 in the afternoon, too. Who knows?

I hope I have another one soon, just to reaffirm. I haven't been sleeping well lately, exam stress =(

Congrats to everyone for first LDs, too =D

      Talking

First off, my friends and I were up till 4 AM watching movies and stuff, and then I finally got some sleep on the couch. At 8 AM, I was awakened by my buzzing cell phone, and I decided to drive home--I wanted to pass out in my own bed. I drank a Mountain Dew on the way there, and I'm wondering if any of the caffeine or vitamin B might have helped me out. I hopped into bed and promptly fell asleep. And then I "woke up". My blanket felt a little different, so I looked at my cell phone and it looked odd...like a much cooler model of my actual phone, with some pretty sweet features. So I figured I was dreaming. What was weird was that I didn't wake up when I found out I was asleep--usually I wake up when I realize I'm dreaming, because I'm worried about being late for class. Instead, I got up out of my bed and started working my legs. I started walking, actually walking, which is weird for me in dreams--I'm usually floating or swimming. Then, I left my house and went for a jog down the street. Then I started feeling my blankets wrapping me at the same time, and then I woke up. I was disappointed that i didn't get to do more in my first LD. So then I started looking on the web and I found this great website.

      my 1st

my 1st LD was like i was in this massive room full of families and we all were waiting for the world to end. All of a sudden I just knew I was dreaming, I can't really explain that but it just happened.

Anyways, I knew that I was dreaming but I was still really scared and was just in complete terror at the thought of there might not be anything after life and then an asteroid hit or whatever and I woke up.

I probably could have stopped this from happening but I didn't want to.

First Lucid Dream After Two Years of Trying!

Hey all, I just finally have had my first lucid dream after two years of intermittently reading about lucid dreaming and I am thrilled. Actually, I've had two. The first one was very brief though, because as soon as I gained lucidity, I got very excited and woke. But the next night (last night), I had a LD, and it was great. Here's a description:

Woke up around 4 AM, and as I was going back to sleep, I kept saying “I will be aware I’m dreaming.” Finally I fell asleep around 5:30, and I began to dream that I was driving some black car all around, delivering something or trying to find something. I do not remember specifically what I was doing, but I was in a rush. It was also raining heavily. It was very surreal. Then all of a sudden, I had the thought, “I am dreaming!” I got very excited, and in the dream I remember laughing aggressively upon realizing this. Then I looked at my hands which were distorted, to confirm that I was in fact dreaming. Next I looked in a mirror and my face was terribly distorted also. This is because before I went to bed, I read about how your own body can look very very distorted during lucid dreams. Remaining lucid, my vision was beginning to fade so I tried to remain calm and I tried the spinning technique. It was very odd – I was vaguely aware that I was lying in bed, but when I would spin, it felt as if I was rushing out of my own body. The colors would blur. I also kept rubbing my hands together, as I’d read that this helps. It was so strange because I could feel my physical body, but when I used my dream body I really felt like I was leaving my physical body. I was not able to get into another dream though…I just kept spinning and laughing. Then I had the thought – “It’s too bad I have to get up for work soon.” And immediately after thinking that, my alarm sounded and I woke up. But I am very excited that I’ve had lucid dreams two nights in a row…hopefully another will follow tonight!

Two questions: Once I gain lucidity, it seems like I become aware of my physical body lying in bed. I didn't wake up, but I could sort of feel my body in bed, and spin out of it at the same time...I guess this was sleep paralysis...How do I get past being able to feel my physical body? My mind is saying, "You are dreaming, so you are lying in bed right now," and no matter how hard I try, I can't get myself to re-enter an actual dream, I just spin and rub my hands together. Any tips?

Also, do lucid dreams occur more frequently once you have your first one? Since I've had one now, do you think that I will find myself having them more and more often now?

      THANKS A LOT!

I had this, I'm not sure if you would say "lucid" dream a few weeks ago, the day school ended for the summer. I was really really tired so I went home and I lied down on my bed and I ended up looking at my ceiling and floating up through it, I thought I was having an astral projection so I kept flying up and I looked down and saw my house and my street, but I kept flying and it turned into this odd cityscape I didn't recognize and my vision sort of turned into a game of Sim City with weird isometric 3D graphics. I tried going into a building and in my dream it came up with a loading screen of sorts as if I was in a video game trying to enter the building. At this point, I stupidly mused to myself, "I don't think this is a dream... Well there's one way to find out." I woke myself up.
As of getting into lucid dreaming:
