      Scare/nightmare induced lucidity? ...and hi!

First thing: I applaud this community for existing. I've enjoyed wandering around in it today and discovering new things.

My question is more curiosity than problematic: anyone ever been scared into awareness? When I was reading the beginnings of LaBerge's book a couple years ago I experienced many failed attempts. My first LD came about when a zombie screamed at me, and in that manner, shocked me into coherence. Since that early morning years ago I've had probably twenty similar encounters always leading to a very crisp dream world, and/or intense vibrations and incredibly loud noise. (not that I'm complaining)

Sorry if this has been discussed before - I couldn't find anything on it.

      And: hi I'm new!

      Hey, welcome!!

Yup, nightmares/scary events are very helpful in inducing LDs, especially if you do RCs in waking life. I had one about a week ago, and I stopped and said, "Wait a minute. Why is this place so scary? HA! I'm dreaming!"

Glad to have ya here! 8)

      welcome!

i've heard from many people about how they used nightmares/scary places to induce lucidity. that method never works for me. i can't even remember the last nightmare i had and i've been LD'ing for quite a while. but hey, if it works for you then i guess thats all that matters.

Actually my first LD was kind of induced like that. I'd just done WBTB (for 60 minutes) and then fell asleep. The first dream I had after that, I was walking down a flight of dark stairs and I hear this strange table-saw noise coming from the bottom of the stairs. I look back up and there's a guy standing at the top with an evil grin and he shuts the door. Anyway, me and the girl I'm with go down the rest of the way and the "scary" guy I'm expecting is standing right there. Me and the girl start to panic. But then I get all excited, turn to her, grab her shoulders, and practically yell out, "It's okay! It's JUST A DREAM!"

Unfortunately it was my first LD and I quickly lost lucidity, but it was still cool. I almost wish I had more nightmares so I could induce more LDs.....almost.
