Is this the right steps towards lucid dreaming

      Hi

A little long with a little background information so please bear with me.

I dont keep a dream journal but I having looked at a few sites recently regards Lucid dreaming and have attempted to improve my dream recollection by spending a few moments upon waking reflecting upon. Please note that I dont use any meditative techniques to fall asleep with.

I have always considered myself to have good dream recollection (possibly due to the fact I am a restless sleeper and often wake during the night) and naturally without effort often realise that I "am" dreaming without being lucid enough to control the dream.

Last night however I was in a particulary vivid dream where at one point I was lying in bed staring at the ceiling - this was in bright sunshine but it was dark in my room obviously at the time

There appeared on the ceiling a swirling (like a whirlpool) of letters that suddenly sucked me in.

This is when I believe I went on the first steps to being lucid in a dream. I was aware that I was asleep. I had the feeling that I was falling without moving. There was no scene to the dream, but merely darkness with a slight hint of static. There was also a low droning in the background that I identifed as the first few bars of a song (like a keyboard note being played too long). I identifed the music as the start of OK Computer (By Radiohead) but I couldnt summon the rest of the song to play. I tried to summon someone I used to know from school (I think at random but possibly not so) but I couldnt make them appear. What I did do was put my hands to my face and check my eyes for REM. Now I dont know if I did this in a sleepwalking state (I dont sleepwalk as far as I know) but I had the definite feeling of fingers on my eyes and the feeling at the same time fo my eyes moving underneath my fingers. This felt like normal tactile contact

I had no concept of time at this pount and I awoke to a bright room. I checked my phone clock and it said 11.30 - which was a concern because my alarm was set to 9.30. I changed the time back to what it should be for my alarm (9.30).

At this point I had obviously slipped back into a normal dream but again it was vivid. I turned over (in my dream) then had a pause when I realised I was still sleeping. I woke up - the transition from dreaming to awake was so fast I wasnt aware of it and I had to make a conciouss effort to check my phone for the time. It was 8.15.

I have had vivd dreams before (usually nightmares) where I am half awake but still dreaming but never quite one like this before.

Any ideas or does it sound like a dream about having a lucid dream (since I have been thinking about it)

You're definitely just about there. Sounds like you were lucid, but without much control or vividness. Seems pretty encouraging to me.

I agree with Skysaw regarding the question to his answer.

I also think that you should keep a DJ no matter what; I know its a hassle sometimes but it really helps towards getting a DILD. Im a WILDer; but its always good to have DILDs as a back up plan.

You sound like you're already pretty good at WILDing but it doesnt hurt to read all the info here at DVs on WILDing that you can. And you might already know that the key to mastering the practice of WILDing is through practice. The more you practice WILDing; the better you'll be at handling any future potential problems that you have or have had in the past.

And whenever you try summoning people/things in dreams; you have to know that it/they will appear at your will. As for a tip, visualize the image of the person/object perfectly in your head, then walk through a door or a corner and they/it should be there. Personally, I turn around, visualize person/object, then simply turn back around to see them. Remember, you have to really expect them to be there when you look, otherwise, they might not show up!
