I'm the same. I find the effort involved in the relaxation techniques to be too complicated and use up too much mental energy.
One thing that works for me that I got from this forum is this:
Find a comfortable position. Lay completely still.
Count backwards from 100 (in your head) like this: 100 breathe in, 99 breathe out, 98 breathe in, 97 breathe out etc.
Use your belly, not your chest, to breathe.
I find I'm breathing really well and pretty relaxed by the time I get to zero.
And the best part is, it's SIMPLE!
