Question Waking up during the night

Hi! I'm new here, and it seemed a good place to go for some questions I have.

Anyway, I once heard that the only way a person remembers their dreams is when they are woken up during the middle of it. Then I was researching some methods for dream recall, and I read that you have to repeatly wake up in the middle of the night, during REM sleep. I'd rather not wake up 5 or 6 times at nighttime. Do I have to learn dream recall this way? Or is there another way that enables me to get a full 8 hours sleep per night?

      Hey, I'm also new here!

You could make a dream journal, do reality checks, and try and identify your dream signs. That way, you could have a DILD (Dream Initiated Lucid Dream), allowing you to have an LD without ever waking up until the morning.

No you don't have to wake up during the night to recall your dreams.
It can help you to remember more dreams though, because if you wake up after every dream and take notes it's easier to remember all of them in the morning but it's not mandatory for a good dream recall.

I can occasionally remember two or three dreams back, you don't have to wake up after each one to remember it, it just helps it be more clear.

Yeah, I've been wondering about this too. I thought that could really mess with my schedule to do that every night. I know that if you wake up around the same times every night it gets programmed into your brain so even if you don't set an alarm you would probably wake up anyway, which could get annoying. Then again, maybe if you get good enough at dream recall in the with that technique, you might not even have to wake up to remember your dreams because you've trained yourself to make a mental note of them. I don't know really, I haven't tried it yet.
