      So close!

      Hi all,

I’ve been very excited about trying lucid dreaming for the past few weeks. I haven’t really made a great effort to induce them yet because I’m a little scared (I’ll talk about why in another thread). Anyway, after a few weeks of dreaming as normal but never becoming lucid, last night I dreamt I was in the lift at work, and then I suddenly thought “hang on, this is a dream!” Then I expected to become conscious, but didn’t. Then I got a little bit scared and decided it would be safest to wake up, which I did, though I had to fight sleep paralysis. Once I woke up, it was a lot later than I expected (just before I get up normally) and I felt like I’d awoken from a deep sleep.

Is it possible I just dreamt that I become aware of the dream, but didn’t actually? If that makes any sense?

      Thanks
      - heebs

      Welcome to DV!

You were definitely lucid. But, as you said, you got scared, and woke yourself up. Just remember that nothing can harm you in a dream. I know lucid dreams can be scary for some people, but imagine all the things you can do in them!

I'll be looking for your thread about why lucidity is a bit scary to you.
