      a quick question

Hey, I tried Lucid Dreaming about a year ago but stopped after having no success and not being able to commit to wilding and the such. so i have started trying again.

last night i think managed to enter sp when i first went to bed, it was a really wierd experience, my body eventually felt like it was spinning and it only took about 5 minutes. then i started visualising images (all of which were quite disturbing as they were all from nightmares i had when i was younger) They werent scenes or anything so it wasnt a dream and after this point due to lack of research i didnt know what to do next so i came out of the sp state.
So there is my question what are you meant to do once in sp?

also, do you need to wake up in the rem stage for it to initiate a lucid or can you just do it straight from when you fall asleep?

      thanks in advance

Rather than SP, it sounded like HI (Hypnagogic imagery) to me. If you also had the part where you couldn't move at all no matter how much you might have wanted to, that's SP.

If it was HI, you'd have eventually entered a dreaming state. As for SP, I think it's about the same, you'd have starting seeing HI and then entered the dream state.

      Here's some dandy tutorials:

DILD (Dream Initiated Lucid Dream) is where the LD is initiated by falling asleep and dreaming.

The waking up technique is used in other methods, such as MILD (Mnemonic Induced Lucid Dream) and WILD (Wake Induced Lucid Dream).

These can all be found in the Tutorials section. You can find a list of acronyms and info in the Sticky there.

hmm, it may have been that, i wasn't too sure whether or not it was sp as i did not want to try to move incase it broke the state. That said, my body did start to feel wierd (like I have read from other threads about sp) and it felt like my body was sinking into the bed, then eventually it felt like my body was spinning around getting faster and faster.

      Does this happen in HI?

oh and with the second question, i meant are you able to enter a ld from sp without waking up in the rem stage (like when wilding)?

Now that sounds familiar. I think if you had just gone on like that, you might have entered the dream... but to be honest, I don't have much experience with that feeling. I only remember the feeling of floating above my body. But I did read about what happened to you in another post, can't remember where. My advice is to search around for SP and Hi and read what you find.

I have no idea, sorry. I'm pretty sure that I read that if you wake up and you're under SP, you can fall back asleep and enter a dream, but I don't know about when not waking up.

You can enter a lucid dream without first going to sleep and then waking yourself up in an REM cycle. It's generally harder to WILD when you first go to sleep though. Probably because when you wake up in an REM cycle, you can fall back asleep really easily. I'd practice WILDing with the waking up in your REM cycle method first, until you feel you got the hang of it before trying it when you normally go to sleep.
