      Smile A little 'bout me

Howdy, ya'll. I've been interested in lucid dreaming for a while. I've read one of LaBerge's books, and have read articles on the net about it. I'm 22, work 12 hour shifts during night and sleep during the day. Typically, I sleep from anywhere from 10 or 11ish am to 5pm. I feel like I get pretty good sleep, but when the stress ramps up in my job (which tends to go in spells), then my sleeping goes all to heck. Right now, the stress level is very low... the lowest that it has been since I started 9 months ago.

I first became interested in lucid dreaming when I imagined what it would be like to have a conversation with one of my characters. I used to write all the time, and still write a bit of poetry here and there when I'm not tied up with catching up on everything I miss from working. 3rd shift is rough.

I started working towards experiencing and remembering lucid dreams several months ago, but my work environment became stressful and overwhelming, and I dropped it. Now, since things have smoothed out and appears like it is gonna be calm for a good while, I am wanting to give it another shot.

My dream recall is "average" (Where exactly is the chart to where I can compare my recall to others? lol). I can, and usually, remember a dream on a vivid visual level. Emotion plays a big part in my dreams. It's the strangest thing when I feel fear when I'm dreaming. I actually feel my heart racing. Kinda cool.

I notice that many of my remembered dreams involve my running away from a threat (usually monsters/zombies/etc), which is a non-assertive and confidence problem that I need to address in my waking life.

Other than my dreams being very visual, I feel like I can control my actions to an extent.... like run away. I feel fear, so I run. Sorta like I know that I'm dreaming, but I can't will myself to face whatever is scaring me.

Besides addressing this personal problem in my dreams, I also would like to play around and have fun. Go places, do things, yanno.

I'm open to advice and willing to put effort in. I'm new to this, and ya'll have much more experience, so I'm ready to learn.

      Later.

Welcome bud. Seems like you're pretty much a natural with dreaming then, or just a quick learner. My dreams were about as vivid as the world is flat when I started, and they're still not amazingly vivid now. That could be attributed to my bad teenage habits though I guess.

Out of curiousity, what induction technique do you lean towards? I've always been a WILD man myself, with the occassional "get a load of that, I'm dreaming"ILD.

      to Dream Views, Nuwisha!

I'm a writer, too! All of my best ideas come from dreams. It is always nice to have another writer here! Hopefully we'll run into each other in chat so we can talk shop!

When you sleep the breathing and heart rate of your sleeping body is actually the same as your dreaming body.

Hopefully you will eventually have to bravery to turn around and face the cause of your fear. The first time you do will be an eye-opening experience. If you want to read a bit about Jung's theories on the things that chase us in our dreams, here is a link:

I recommend it because in my own experience with dreamwork his theories are spot-on.
