      Completely new

Hi... I'm Ryan/Ryles and I'm completely new to the idea of lucid dreaming. And I do mean completely. I only sort of knew what it was from comics involving dream sequences. I'm only really here because I want to try something involving dreams and lucid dreaming seems like the best way to try it out. I won't ask the question here because it might be answered somewhere else and I've only scanned over a few topics/pages of the site.

Also, because it's in the rules, I have a truly miserable time with homophones. I will mix them up, especially when there isn't a contraction (ex. your/you're,their/they're). I do try to keep them strait, but for some reason I just can't remember which is which.

      Welcome to DV!

You will probably get most of your questions answered by checking out the tutorials section. Still, don't hesitate to ask if you have unanswered questions!

      Welcome.

If I can suggest a course of action, it's to learn a good reality check that you can do almost any time and stick to doing it. Either learn to throw it at yourself at almost any time, or train yourself to do it in a given situation. Someone once recommended to me doing a reality check every time you go through a door. I would extend that to any doorway or major transition. Once you've trained yourself to an art with that, I reckon you're sorted. Oh, and try and think about the reality checks as you do them. Just seriously ask yourself, "Am I dreaming?"

Yes, it takes practise and dedication and I'm not there yet. I've had one lucid dream only, but that is my advice for now.

How do you determine good reality checks? (yes, I know the dream thing, but my dreams' best tell is that they are completely insane)

Good reality checks (RCs) are those that would be impossible in waking life, like closing your mouth, plugging your nose, and still being able to breathe. Or pusing your finger though your palm. For a whole bunch of other RC ideas, check out the RC tutorial.
