      Will this work? - Reality Checks (looking at hands)

      Hey.

      I have always had problems remembering to do reailty checks in real life... I would probably manage only a few a day when I was trying to do it before (have just recently started to try again).

      I read a post yesterday about an setting an alarm on your watch to go off every hour and when it does to do a reality check. Seeing as though I don't wear a watch I thought I might as well do it on my mobile phone as I work with it all day.

      The alarm went off this morning and I immediately did a RC. When I next looked at the phone however I remebered that I had it set to go off every hour and I had to do a RC when it did, so I did one there and then.

      Throughout the day every time I look at the phone or recieve a phone call (which is a fair amount) I remember to do a RC (I have chosen to count the fingers on my hand). Now if I even think about a phone I do a RC.

      Should I keep this up?

      Reality checks dont realy work that way.
      reality checks should be constructed in your day so that when you dream you do them aswell.
      If you only do a reality check whenever you look at your phone or get a phone call, then in your dream you will only do this aswell, therefore if you do not dream of a phone ringing, you wond do an RC
      Try basing your reality checks around everyday things, things you are likely going to dream about every night.
      some people do a reality check every time somthing strage or wierd happens because dreams are often strange or wierd.
      people who have alot of nightmares may do a reality check whenever they fell scared etc

      Also, dont do just one reality check, I know this from personal experiance, ive done the finger through hand rc in dreams and its failed on me alot, now i hold my nose and try to breath and it works for me 100%, everyone is different, pick a few and see which ones works best for you ,do them one after the other and convince yourself your not dreaming, bcause if you just blindly do reality checks without thinging about it and realy questioning reality then you wont become lucid.

      I can't do it when something strange happens because... rarely does anything strange happen. It is almost 5pm and nothing strange has happened today which would = 0 RCs. I don't remember having a nightmare in years.

      Can you give me an example about what to base my RCs around that would probably happen in my dreams? I will try out different RCs too... but counting fingers is just easy. Would look a bit weird at work while I am in a meeting my randomly trying to breathe through my nose while holding it shut...

      You do bring up a good point about actually questioning the checks I do though. I have been trying to do this as when I thought about it I was simply counting my fingers and moving on. What if I count 13 fingers and move on in my dreams... I will try and convince myself I am not dreaming.

      It worked for me... I wasn't so much about hearing an alarm but getting used to looking at my hand.
