      WILDly confused

I'm still pretty new here and couldn't find very much beginner's info on WILD.

I'm pretty sure I used to have it all the time but had no clue what it was. Could someone please explain what it is, what it's like and some other info about it.

      THANKS!

First of all WILD stands for Wake Induced Lucid Dream. It is the practice of remaining conscious while asleep. It is arguably one of the best and most common techniques among lucid dreamers; personally, its my favorite. Many people (including me) usually do WILDs w/ a Wake Back To Bed (WBTB) which is basically sleeping about 5 to 6 hours before going back to bed.
Here's my step by step technique to WILDing, hope it helps:

      1. Get at least 5 to 6 hours of sleep.

      2. Devote at least 2 hours (or more) to WILDing.

      3. Remember your goal (where you want to go, what you want to do, etc).

      4. Dismiss any other thoughts and focus only on taking slow, deep breaths.

      5. Remain COMPLETELY still, no matter what.

      6. Try to steer clear of straying/abstract thoughts when entering SP (random/abstract thoughts means that the logical part of your brain is falling asleep, dont let it!). (they can also cause you to enter a non-Lucid Dream which would make all this work was for nothing!)

      7. Dont fight or resist SP in any way / stay relaxed and calm when it begins to happen.

      8. Continue to focus only on your (slow, deep) breathing as vibrations, Hypnagogic Imagery, and auditory hallucinations become more intense from SP.

(you can focus on and/or visualize your goal once you think you've got the breathing part down packed).

      9. Continue step 7 until you feel that sudden rush of falling through your bed or through the ceiling (in my case); this should mean that SP is complete, and hence you are ready to dream.

      10. If you are not already in a dream scene, then spin around or rub your hands together (or both) in order to conjure up one. Doing this can also stabilize a fading/blurry dream scene.

There you have it, those are pretty much all the steps I take when Im attempting a WILD. And if it doesnt work the first time, remember that it takes time so dont give up! I know it seems like a lot, but once you've been through it many times, you will become better and better at it.

I 'll probably be scared of the vibrations, becasue that used to happen to me all the time, and I had no clue what it was.

I would either be almost alseep, or wake up in the middle of the night (don't remember which one) and feel some vibrations in my toes. I knew it meant some weird dream was coming. Then it would move up my body (I don't remember if I tried to move or not) and I would try to fight it back down, if it got all the way past my head, I would usually enter a dream (usually barely lucid for some reason). I always thought that the whole thing was a reocurring nightmare.

So I'm still scared to try

Yeah, for some reason, Sleep Paralysis induces fear , I don't know why. I thinks its b/c of the fact that we're paralyzed that causes a lot of fear. Ive gone through SP a lot (since I was 11) and had some pretty bad experiences with it (ghosts, aliens). But ever since Ive gotten into LDing, Ive turned that fear into excitement (which isnt good when trying to WILD but I cant help it). Im excited b/c I know Im only moments away from a much anticipated LD.
But I still do get a little freaked out from time to time in SP so another thing I do when Im WILDing is sleep w/ one set of covers over my face, so I dont see any freaky SP hallucinations!

I agree with everything that WolfeDreamer says except for the 2 hours or more devotion to WILDing. It's better to wait until you are actually tired to WILD. Your body will slip to sleep quicker if it is in need of sleep. If it isn't ready to sleep you'll just lay there forever trying to get to the dream state in vain.

That's just from my own experience.

What I meant from the 2 hours or more is when your doing it w/ a WBTB.
I think its good to wake up at least 2 hours before you have to get up and start your day. If I only had an hour or less to WILD before I had to get up and start my day, then Id be too aware of the time and anxious to fall back asleep, you see what Im saying?

I see what you're saying and I suspected that's what you meant but it sounds more like you meant lay there for 2+ hours trying to dream.
There are people who do lay there for hours trying to WILD. It think that's nuts but if it works for them it works.
