Welcome to DV.
On your recall issue: There is no rush to get them on paper straight away. I recommend trying to go through the events in your dream (in your head), chronologically (I usually do this backwards, because I often remember events closer to waking with more clarity, so I can build from that). After you have gone through your dream in your head, it should then be safer to try to write it down. I find that while I am writing, some additional little details usually present themselves to me without effort.
The reason that this could work is that our brains seem to have some kind of inbuilt bias towards forgetting dream memories, which often makes it hard to 'hold on' to a recalled dream. By recalling your dream again while awake, you make a waking memory of the dream, which seems to be noticeably easier to maintain.
YMMV, of course, but this works for me.
