      3 Questions

Hi all. After I got a random sleep paralysis half a year ago, this subject has been rather interesting.

      1. I tried WILD and MILD last night. Is there any point in doing reality checks and dream journals all the time if I'm just going for WILDing?
      2. As I see it, there's a lot of video game nerds here. That should be resonable right?
      3. Why isn't there a sticky in the newbie board that explains the strange acronyms like WILD, MILD and WBTB? I worked my ass off to udnerstand all those lol.

      Hey Smithy

For me the thing about a dream journal is that it enables you to build up your recall, in detail as well as frequency. So if you only WILD, and you wake up, but those dreams are hazy and difficult to recall, when you could have kept a dream journal and possibly increased that recall, I'd keep the DJ. Depends on your current recall, though, and of course we're all different. I don't keep a DJ and my recall is typically pretty good. As for RCs, I wouldn't necessarily use them to test if I were dreaming if I only did WILDs, but I'd probably use them to increase awareness to increase the vividness of a WILD, and also to try to keep a higher state of awareness to make sure I never lost lucidity during a WILD. Usually I just wake up from them, but the first time I lost lucidity during one I'd start RCing. Not to mention, RCs can be fun! to do in dreams as well as stabilizers

I dunno, video game nerds? I guess it would make sense, sometimes video games can give you the outlets or ideas that you desire, the same way that RL can't but sometimes LDing can. I know a lot of the video games that I've played are awesome just because they can carry on into my dreams, long after they've outlived their fun as a game. I personally tend to watch dorky, terrible movies that just completely suck simply because of the special effects and what they can do to help me with dreaming. Like the Fantastic 4 movies.... *shudder* Thank god for youtube! It's cut down on having to actually watch entire crap movies haha I think it's a little biased too, though, that most people who are video game junkies are also computer junkies. Not many other types of people will join and become so very active on a website forum. Of all the people I know in RL who lucid dream, I'm the only one who plays games and likes those sorts of movies. The rest of them hate them, and of all the times I've talked about DV to them, never once has one asked, "Oh, what's the URL for that site?"

The Acronyms tutorial is helpful in learning about the different abbreviations commonly used throughout the forum.
      Hope all that helps!

      1. Yes, lots of WILDs result in false awakenings and a good grasp on reality checks is required to catch those. Also, MILDs rely on reality checks to get lucid.

      2. Could be, I guess I'm one of them, but I haven't played in ages.

      3. There is, Burns' newbie guide has a link to the acronym list. Also, the dream guides (green staff members) are constantly working hard to make newbies feel comfortable, and a new welcome guide is on our list of things to do.
