I know exactly the feeling you are referring to. It is very common, and nothing to be scared of. That being said, it is an incredible and intense experience.
Many people experience these energy rushes, or vibrations, or waves of shock while doing WILD or OBE type meditations. Holding your awareness while your brain disconnects from you body can make some crazy hallucinations happen. Try searching around for Hypnagogic Hallucinations, or Hypnagogia in general. It is what your body naturally does every time you pass into a sleeping state. Normally you are just not aware of it because you have already lost consciousness.
Personally, I always get several intense rushes of vibrations that seem to travel up my body. They come in waves, and I can change the intensity of the feeling by focusing on the feeling. I also notice a change in my heartbeat and breathing, and sometimes a pressure on my chest. Common hallucinations for me, are clear voices and conversations coming from nowhere, and severe body distortions. This can also be accompanied by sleep paralysis, where you are unable to move.
Even without the lucid dream, it is a mind blowing altered state of consciousness on par with a drug induced trip. Keep an open mind, and try to enjoy the WILD ride. It is safe, natural, and totally free You are exploring an exciting state of consciousness that humans have been trying to induce for thousands of years.
