well as soon as i started dreaming, i was climbing up a wall. (go spiderman! ) when i came down i realised that it shouldnt be possible for me to do this, and realised that i was dreaming. when i tried to climb the wall again i couldn't do it. i said to myself "this is a dream, nothing can hold me back" but i still wasn't able to control my surroundings, yet i was still aware that i was dreaming... was i not concentrating hard enough? or was i trying to do too much as a beginner?

Since you knew you were dreaming, yes it was a lucid dream. You probably couldn't climb the wall after you became lucid because you told yourself you shouldn't be able to climb up a wall.

Sounds like a fun lucid dream. Hopefully it is the first of many. Dream control is a tricky and fickle thing. You have to fight your preconceived notions and core beliefs about how the world works. It is strange that you could climb the wall, but as soon as you focused on it, it became impossible. Maybe giving it too much attention and importance made it difficult. I'm imagining Wile E. Coyote running off a cliff. He runs on air just fine until he looks down and realizes there is nothing underneath him.
