      2 newbie questions

ok just recently i got into the intrest of dreaming and lucid dreams... so my first question is that a whole lot of times i remember dreams long after i wake and start my day... let me start by mentioning my dreams that i remember are about 90% related to the physical real world with nothing unusual happening... so anyways an example of how i remember a dream is say i meet my friend sometime during the day and i'll remember a dream involving that same friend, but before i realized it was a dream, i had it in my mind that it was an actual event that occured.. so lets say my friend got a new car in my dream, the whole day in the back of my mind my friend has a new car but when i see him later is when i realize it was a dream... i know only few times in my life i remember a dream upon waking... any suggestions??

my second question out of curiosity is why dreams can seem to last long extended periods of time with just the most elaborate scenes and detail within a single rem period?

      First welcome to the forum!

The reason you remember dreams like you do is because memory is built on association so when you encounter something your brain thinks "what happened in this situation last time?" as a result it sometimes comes up stuff that happened while dreaming. A lot of people find this happens so its nothing unusual but its fairly difficult to exploit as a method of recall. As for the time thing have a search, this topic has come up a few times and people have diffrent ideas about it.

first of all, welcome to the forum!

second, i found that if you lie in bed still right after you wake up, and concentrate on parts of a dream, the rest slowly starts filling in. then just record it in a dream journal (HIGHLY suggested)

      hope ive been of help,

wow, ive remembered a dream 2 nights in a row now just from telling myself to remember them before i went to bed and just spending a moment recalling it and writing it down, ive never remembered them more than once or twice if im lucky in a week much less 2 in a row, the one i had last night was almost a lucid one because i was there and thinking is this a dream over and over again but it seemed soo realistic and i just assumed it had to be real so i just went along...... wow its just soo interesting... i think i'll post my dream in the interpretation forum
