      Dream Journal Motivation

Hey, I can wake up in the night at will without an alarm but when I try to remember my dream I remember very little so that I don't want to write it down. Any tips?

      Thanks

Write them down anyway, even if you only remember a tiny bit. That will make your brain relise you want to remember your dreams.

By the way, how do you manage to wake up with out an alarm.

I just do, I don't normally but if I want to I can. I just wake up about 2-3 hours or so before I wake up normally.

Before I tried drinking water before bed but last night I tried without and woke up anyway. I think it's just the intent of waking up that does it.
We all wake up many times a night after REM periods (I think), so if you want to the chances are you'll be better at becoming completely awake during these periods.

Do you lie in bed waiting for the dreams to come, or do you realize you don't know a thing and just give up?

With my, normally, when I wake up and I don't remember anything, I just lie down, preferably in the same position as I woke up and wait for them to come. Sometimes I just get the entire dream in a flash.
Once, I suddenly got a flash while reaching up to get my cellphone (which is also my alarm clock).

Even if you don't remember anything straight away, you can sometimes have great recall half an hour later for some reason. I generally ask myself where I was and who I was with ( if anybody ) and also try and think of objects or forms of travel to jog your memory. I usually go through my list like, was I travelling by foot, car, bus, train etc and did I eat, drink, or use money.

I had zero recall this morning after I awoke but 3 hours later at work I had remembered 3 dreams or scenes.

Keep it up though and you'll have great recall within a couple of weeks.

Write what you can recall anyways. This will also help to identify any dream signs (reoccurring signs in your dream that tell you that you're dreaming). You should also practice auto-suggestion, this is when you tell yourself something that you want to accomplish such "I am going to remember my dreams tonight" or "I am going to wake up right after my dreams end" etc. You would usually repeat this only three to five a night, but with emphasis; it wont work unless you truly mean it.

like everyone has said, just write down ANYTHING you can recall. Your mind is automatically built to erase dream memories. If you write things down, your brain will start to realize that you want this information saved. It works.
