      Running

      Hi, I'm Carl.
I stumbled across this site because I've been having dreams for weeks and weeks now in which I'm running from or towards something but it feels like I'm running underwater. I've been putting it down to the fact that I'm physically under the covers. I've been looking for other explanations as to why I might be having this dream in hope of finding a solution... but I've been unsucessful. So now I've decided that lucid dreaming might be an answer to the problem. If I can control my dreams I can forget running altogether and fly instead, for example. Something deeper is probably at play which is causing me to run constantly in dreams but for the time being I need a solution, I find the dreams extremely tiresome.

      Anyway, that's it... Hi, again.

Dreams can symbolize pretty much anything... is there something in your subconcious that you are "running" from. Something in your past..... I used to have alot of running and going nowhere dreams too and one night I just decided (while I was dreaming) to run like a cheetah on all fours and it worked, I took right off. I've done it three or four times now, never flew though... If you not being able to run is a reoccuring theme in your dreams then it's probably something you can use to become lucid, as in, "Hey, I'm stuck again, I am definitely dreaming"...

I haven't experienced this in particular, but I do recall a dream where this witch was trying to keep me from speaking and I had to work against her to get my voice back. In another dream I could not move. I couldn't even turn my eyes to see what was to my left and right and I was starting to really get upset. It was just weird.

If you find yourself running in a dream, just stop. Stop running. If something's coming after you, chances are that it won't be as bad as you think. Usually I don't even know what I'm running from when I go through that, but when they catch up nothing bad really happens. If you're trying to get something, then trying to fight your way past some invisible barrier is just going to lead to a bunch of frustration and not much else. Take a deep breath, relax, and then act with a clear head.

      Welcome to the forums.

You can take the advice given above, but the main thing about dreams is this: Whatever you believe will happen will happen. Since you are expecting to not be able to run properly, then that will effect your dreams. If you can manage to tell yourself this in the dream, that would be ideal. But if you can't, perhaps telling yourself (and believing it) that you won't have problems running tonight before bed would help.

      Good luck.

Wow, thanks for the replies. I work nights and I've just got in, I'm about to go to bed. I've taken on board a few of the things you've said. Usually the thing I'm running to is something very mundane... the corner shop to buy some bread for example, and the thing I'm running away from is never something that would harm me. I'll try to use being unable to run as a trigger to being lucid dreaming first, and failing that I'll do as you said Amethyst Star... just stop running and see what happens.

I'll keep you posted on what happens Thanks again.

I picked a hole in my plan, how could I just stop running unless I was lucid dreaming.

Well, I didn't have a running dream as it happen, but I did have a dream about having a broken leg... I also had a dream that I came to the newbie forum and it was full of threads called 'Running', and I was searching and searching but couldn't find mine.
