Smoking hinders your dream recall I already showed studies that basically prove this on a number of instances. I was/am in the same case as you and was blazing probably more and larger amounts than you and had almost no dream recall even though I had almost mastered lucid dreaming.

Now that I've cut back drastically recently (almost cold turkey although I ended up giving in last night just 1 time and ended up just having a flash of a dream which is VERY VERY rare for me) my dream recall is through the roof again otherwise.

Although you can still have occasional strong ones by doing this in the big picture it is just ruining your recall. It's some of the small things like this that made me wanna quit (and the demotivational thing I stopped wanting to do my work/uni stuff 24/7 and just mess around) but are never brought up in studies. Plus you start to get annoying cravings and stuff if you were a heavy heavy user. Supposedly just "psychological withdrawal" although I'd argue that those studies haven't target extreme cases well. Regardless, alot of things like that are hassles that aren't mentioned when you start.
This entire reality is SELF REFLECTION. You reflect your essence and project it onto the universe.

I have walked the same path as you, smoking for the last 3 years. I too initially had planned to just cut back on it.

Well I did and continued to cough up black tar/resin, it was obvious my lungs weren't keeping up, it was delaying my Dream progression, slowing down the speed of my thought, and overall keeping me from being 100% in my health - mind - body - soul.

The first day I was clean, I remembered having vivid dreams like I had years ago, but I could only remember bits and pieces. Now, 4 days clean, I have had 5 or 6 intense, vivid, semi-lucid dreams every night since, upon waking from them I can remember them in full length(if I choose to), or I can just fall back asleep and slip into a new dream.

I have forgotten what this is like, and I will not go back, I love the world within too much. It is my personal decision and I do not expect you to do the same. If you cannot fully give it up and you want to seriously cut back and dream again, at least knock it down to smoking Friday and Saturday(aka the weekends).

The 5 days in between will allow you to expierence vivid dreams and you will get your recall back. There is a choice to make, and it is yours and yours only.

An old Indian told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all. One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, superiority, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, truth, compassion and faith." The grandson asked him: "Which wolf wins?" He simply replied, "The one you feed."

What time are you going to bed and waking up? I THINK I noticed I have more vivid dreams (or maybe can just recall better) if i don't go to bed late and wake up earlier. Maybe it's because I'm not dead tired?

When you wake just lay there with your eyes closed and go through a list of names/activities in your head. This works for me, you should get a feeling or a picture inside your head of that person or something you were doing. Then back track, think of how you got there.

I agree with shotbirds; the time you go to bed and wake up. My dream recall sucks during school days because I'm often up until midnight doing homework and talking to my friends, then wake up at 5:45 AM. However, on the weekends, recall is like, "wheeee =D". ^__^
