      Hi guys, I'm new here

My friend recommended to this site, because he has been a lurker here for a while and told me it was pretty cool. He recently joined though, and his username is False, if you want to give him credit for recommending me. I'm interested in lucid dreaming, and want to learn the best ways to start off. My friend recommended melatonin to help me have more vivid dreams, so I have been using that too. I can only seem to come to the point though where I am questioning if I am awake or not, but then I deny myself and go back to dreaming. It seems like it would be a cool thing to do though (to have a lucid dream) so I'm willing to put in a bit of effort into learning to do so.

EDIT: sorry, I didn't see the "newbie zone"

      First off, to Newbie Zone!

      False, I thank you.

Melatonin helps some people, but if you notice any negative effects, stop taking it. On top of that, did you start a dream journal?

If you question whether or not you are dreaming, do a reality check!

I might as well post here. So him and I are pretty much starting fresh. I have tried to do some LD before and it's worked once or twice, unintentionally. So we're going to start right here and look for helps and tips if we have any

Anything that you can. Scenes from dreams, what happened, and what you felt.

Just a notebook by your bed will do more for your dreams than melatonin.

How exactly will having the journal help with lucid dreaming?

After a while, you'll get in the habit of remembering more of your dreams, and more of what it feels like...

This increases your chances of realizing you are dreaming.

Also, I am somewhat having trouble remembering my dreams lately. I used to recall at least 2-3 a night. How can I help remembering?

      Well, dream journal of course.

Mnemonic phrases can help when you are in a pinch.

Repeat and focus on the the words, "I will awake from my dreams and remember them completely" while you are falling asleep.

Waking up after each dream will help dream recall, even if you don't remember wakng up. Also, setting an alarm or training your body to get about 3-4 hours after falling asleep can help.

Go ahead! It usually requires waking up in the middle of the night, and whats the worse that could happen? You have a regular dream?

Do you wake up feeling groggy since you woke up in the middle of the night?

      Well, it depends.

Depending on when you wake up for the WILD, you may feel groggy, it takes some trial and error, and as for waking up in the morning... Usually people don't since they are only awake for 5-10 minutes, but I know that some WILDers feel tired since their minds were active for so long.

Is melatonin worth it at all for lucid dreaming? I heard it gives "vivid" dreams. Although I've had none.

Again, it depends on the person...

I would suggest if it doesn't work, don't try it for a month or so, and try it again.

Plus melatonin and B vitamins are pretty cheap...

If I can't remember a dream for a night, should I leave my dream journal blank for that day?

      Write down anything!

Any feeling that you got, anything you kind of remember...

Oh, also, if you can help it, when you wake up, stay still, and think back to see if you can catch anything. That will help on days with little recall

yea, besides the dream journal, are there any induction techniques that I could use as a beginner, or what I should start out with? And also, are all lucid dreams remembered, or can you have one without knowing it?

There was a poll about just that.

A dream journal isn't an induction technique, it just helps. I still suggest the DILD.

I'm not sure, it's been mentioned though. Its possible to think, "Hey this is a dream" and then continue with a dream, not taking control, and then forgetting the dream bafore waking up. So, its possible to have a lucid without remembering it.

But having a controlled dream is much different, it usually need some sort of consciousness, so I would say no...

hey i have another question, what exactly can you do in lucid dreams that makes then so special? Can you do anything you want, and are lucid dreams the things they do in the movie "Dreamscape"?

Yes, you can pretty much do whatever you want, depending on the level of consciousness you have in your dream.

      False is right. (hehe)

You can do anything! Thus the appeal.

      I've never seen Dreamscape though.

Dreamscape is a cool movie, you should rent it sometime. It's about a guy who can go into other peoples dreams and fix problems, and do whatever he wants. Here's a trailer for it, I know its old.

I'm off for the night, I'll try to get a lucid, lol.
