Hey!! Congrats, sounds like a kickass first lucid! Sometimes you'll just kind of freak a bit and cause yourself to wake up, or to have a false awakening so awesome work catching that one 
Check out this link, http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=70131 it should help you get a handle on calming down and steadying a dream when you become lucid. But when you do stabilize you shouldn't just be stabilizing 'the dream', but your own lucidity. Really becoming aware and conscious that it's a dream, therefore you can do anything. Try to focus on this knowledge next time and become REALLY confident. I find confidence is the most important thing with dream control- realizing that something should work simply because none of it is real and there are no consequences or laws.
