Help someone who almost never dreams.

I'm able to recall approximately one dream every 1-2 months. I don't really have any technique other than listening to downtempo and ambient on my headphones when I go to bed until I lose consciousness. I take several vitamins nightly that I'm told will probably help me, they are as follows:

      1.5mg Melatonin
      Piracetam (high dose)
      250mg Choline
      250mg DMAE
      B-Complex (2mg B6, 25mg Niacin, etc.)

I smoke cigarettes, and do not plan on quitting. Any advice you can give me, with the exception of the obvious QUIT SMOKING, will be appreciated.

      Welome to dreamviews!

First of all; keep a dream journal. Nothing is more important, essential in all areas.

Second, SLEEP. Obviously, we cant have dreams without sleep, so getting a good amount is ALWAYS important.

Vitamins don't always help, it differs from person to person. Melatonin has never had any effect on my dream recall, it only made my head a bit uncomfortable. :\

Good luck, Check out the quick start guide for loads more helpful info.

I'm going through the tutorials right now, starting a dream journal tonight with a retroactive entry from last night. That dream, the first recall in a long time, reminded me that I wanted to do more research on this subject. My goal is a reasonably reliable ability to achieve lucidity, but it seems like a long road. For now, I'd be happy with increased recall.

Most of the vitamins I take were part of a routine I established before I expressed any interest in lucid dreaming, though it was nice to find out that virtually all of them had supposed benefits though. The Piracetam is a general cognitive function enhancer that I'm glad I started taking, and I take the choline to counteract the increased acetylcholine consumption that comes with Piracetam use. I take melatonin for its use as a non-narcotic sleep aid that doesn't make me feel like a zombie in the morning. The B6+etc is just part of taking vitamins to stay healthy. DMAE is the only one that I take specifically for its supposed dream enhancing qualities, but it helps out with the Piracetam too since it metabolizes into choline.
