      I'm a lucid dream n00b.

Right, I am 15. Have no experience in the lucid dream department.

I read the tutorial on Dream-views and i have some questions to ask.

If i start trying to lucid dream today, How long will it take for my first one to come? If it is different for different people...What is the average?

In the tutorial it says i have to do various stuff like dream recalling, is this necessary and how long d you have to do it for if you did?

When lucid dreaming, is it like being exactly in real life? can you touch things?

When lucid dreaming, if you think to yourself you want a certain person or object to appear, will it happen?

Also here for guidance on how to get started as it seems a very exciting prospect

      Welcome!
For the first question, the averages do differ from person to person with some it can be in a few weeks, others a few months. Me personally it took 4 weeks, then I had my first DILD (dream induced lucid dream)

Second question, dream recall is extremely important. If you do not remember any dream upon awakening then you need work. A good average is 2-3 it took my only a week to begin remembering them. Keep a dream journal to write them all down in, it helps greatly

Last question, in your dreams you can do anything. Your only boundary is your imagination, if you really dont believe you can do it you wont. Dream control takes ALOT of practice.

I hope that helped, let me know if you have anymore questions

Hey, that's ok! You've started reading the tutorials, learning the information that is gonna make it happen. So you're already moving in the right direction

It really does depend, and as far as I know no one has actually done a survey. Even if someone did, there would just be so many variables to take into account. Some people make lucid dreaming their life, other people don't even keep a journal or reality check. It's hard to say but I think that a reasonable estimate would be within 2-3 weeks you'll likely get one.

Keeping a dream journal isn't completely necessary, but I highly advise it. Keeping a DJ means that you're going to remember the majority of your dreams, and that you're going to become more familiar with the way it feels to be in a dream. You'll be making that commitment, which, when it comes to dreaming, I think means something to yourself. Also, keeping a dream journal means that you can start looking for dream signs and figuring out the very specific things you'll want to be reality checking for. So though it's not necessary, I really think you should keep one. Whenever I stop keeping mine my dream recall plummets, as does my frequency of lucid dreams(/their recall)

It depends on the dream, and also if you stabilize the dream or not. You can definitely touch things, and focusing on specific things in a dream tends to make them more realistic. For example, if you look at your hand really quickly right now then glance away, you'll go "Yeah, there was a hand there. It was X color, there were five fingers, I had knuckles." Same in a lucid, but if you really stop and stare at your hand you'll see the individual hairs, the wrinkles, the nails, the cuticles, etc. It really depends on how much awareness and attention you put into it, and that sort of holds true for everything, especially reality checking

It depends, on your confidence and how lucid you are. If you go "I'm pretty sure this is a dream, Elvis is gonna walk around the corner" you might have trouble. With more experience you start figuring out how to manipulate your dreams. For example, "Ok, I'm dreaming. Yup, I've got 20 fingers. Yup, I can breathe even though my nose is pinched. I'm DEFINITELY dreaming, so it's possible that anyone can show up in my dream right now. I'm gonna open this door, and Elvis will be on the other side!"
Some people have awesome dream control, and some people have a bit of trouble at first. Just making sure you are very lucid, not just KNOWING that you are dreaming but UNDERSTANDING that you are dreaming, yea you can make things/people appear

As far as that goes, feel free to ask any questions you've got. If you come into the chat, someone is usually there ready to talk about lucid dreaming We also have a ton of tutorials(I recommend starting with this), the guide for those new to the site, an adoption program, and of course all the old threads that are already on the site Just keep reading about and let me know if you've got any more questions

Hey Tchocky Welcome to DV! When I arrived, I was interested in dreams but didn't know lucid dreaming was possible. I'd had a couple of similar experiences where I would re-enter the dream and have some conscious control for a while, but wasn't exactly lucid.

I'd say that Shift and Chewnie answered your questions fairly well. I just want to reiterate that different people progress at different speeds. You may very well become lucid tonight! I know people who hear about LDing and it sticks in their head and *bam!* it happens. It took me three weeks but it was worth it! I was so excited when I realized that I was dreaming I didn't do anything but stand there. Granted I didn't have time to do anything as I woke up shortly after, but the feeling was wonderful.

If you can pick it up right away, great! If it takes you a little while, don't worry. You'll be lucid in time so just enjoy the ride.

If you have more questions let us know. I hope you enjoy your time here.

Well, I got a lucid the first day I came to this site, probably because I was so excited.

Dream recalls definitely important...if you can't even remember your dreams, there's no point in trying to get lucid!

When lucid, the dream environment you encounter pretty much is determined by your level of control. You'll be better able to stabilize the dream and control your surroundings as you get more and more experienced with lucid dreams.

There's a thing on this site called the Adoption Program and you should look into getting 'adopted' You'll be paired with an experienced LD'er who's able to help you out and answer your questions.
