      Why didn't I become lucid?

So last night I had a dream with two things in it that should have let me become lucid. The first was that I looked in a mirror and my face was deformed and pretty scary looking. I read that this is a common dream sign and I was looking for dream signs throughout the day so that I would catch on in a dream. Then later in the dream, my stomach felt kind of weird (because it did in real life when I woke up) and I remember thinking "hmm I didn't know you could feel queasy in a dream". So I knew that I was in a dream, but that didn't seem to phase me at all. I just continued on with what I was doing. How can I make it so that if I notice a dream sign or I realize that I'm in a dream, I actually become lucid?

Unrelated question: When people say they had X dreams in one night, does that count dreams that happen in the same cycle? i.e. if you have a dream that turns into another dream completely unrelated to the first, does that count as two dreams or one?

I would try reality checking through out the day, asking yourself if you are dreaming. I mean you could rely on experiences like you had but your mind is basically asleep and you will think nothing of it. As for the second question, I don't know.

Edit: I think it means just the dreams they remembered in any cycle. We all have plenty of dreams but we don't remember them. If someone can confirm this/correct it, would be nice
if you can read this then you are about to be punched

I just count those as two dreams since I really have no idea what cycle they occurred during. I just know that they weren't directly related to each other.

Just reality checking and learning to increase your awareness of what's going on should help you with this problem. These kind of dreams usually seem to mean you're on the brink of learning to become lucid, so keep it up

I could an individual dream as "I distinctly recall being aware and awake between this dream and another one". So even if I go to bed, dream about dinosaurs, then dream about skiing, and then dream about being an astronaut, and THEN I wake up, I count that all as one dream. Usually if you REALLY recall them well and look at them you can even find the transition point.
