Ok this is a bit frustrating

Hey so I had a very cool vivid dream last night of death and destruction in which I was so close to becoming lucid. Right at the end of the dream a big truck crashed and toppled over onto its side and I thought I want to get a picture of this so I pulled out my camera phone and I guess as soon as I realised I could not read my phone, making myself aware that I was dreaming, I woke up. I can't remember seeing my phone or thinking that it was a dream, I just woke up as soon as I pulled my phone out and started to look at it.

I think his point is that he came really close to having a lucid dream (correct me if I'm wrong).

He has a point. Such threads are unecessary. If you are going to recount an experience, post it into the Lucid Experiences thread. If you have a question, ask it. But posting something with no purpose...

Hmm well... It wasn't really a lucid experience but, okay!

Maybe I should have elaborated a bit... I was trying to point out that to acquire lucidity one is instructed to become aware of signs that you are dreaming; impossibilities that just could not happen in real life. I was simply pointing out that as soon as one of these impossibilities had arisen to me in my dream I did not have enough time to process or question it, I just instantly woke up. The reason for my post was to see if anyone could relate, because from what I read on this site people find it quite easy to keep themselves relaxed. It may simply be my inexperience but I really find it hard to keep from waking up in an instant as soon as I get close to consciously dreaming.

I really don't see any foul in posting this on here, after all the more information and experiences that are posted on here, the more people can learn from it but anyway my bad I guess.

Hey deXtrous, there is nothing wrong with your original post and I'm not sure why this response. Being a fairly experienced LDer I immediately knew what your point was and can indeed relate.

Lucid dreams are notoriously elusive! What you experienced is extremely typical for a beginner. Most people wake up within a couple of seconds the first time they become lucid. I believe this is because in the instant you become lucid there is a marked alteration in your conscious state and it gives you a bit of a jolt. Unless you are ready for this jolt you will most likely wake up, but once you have experienced it you know what to expect and can prime yourself (during waking hours) to stay calm whenever it happens. You woke up a second before you got to this point which is a shame, but I still consider it progress.

For some reason our brains have real trouble simulating modern appliances such as cellphones, digital watches, TVs etc in dreams. Interestingly, analogue clocks seem to work fine but digital ones go completely cuckoo. It seems our brains want to avoid having to simulate these appliances. I have noticed that when I'm dreaming and I look at a clock that I own in RL that is digital my brain will change it and make it analogue. It doesn't surprise me at all that you woke up before you got to look at your cellphone. Recently I've switched to a digital watch as my new RC and it took ages before my brain would allow me to see it in a dream. Finally, I had done so many RCs looking at it in RL that it became an integral part of me and I saw it in a dream. If you persist with your RCs, eventually your brain will allow you to do one while dreaming.

Just remember to keep priming yourself not to get too excited when it happens! Believe me, no matter how many LDs I have the exhilaration of being awake inside a dream never fades. I have simply learned to hold off my 'whoop whoops' until I wake up!

      Don't sweat it deXtrous,

Your original statement is VERY valid.

I would guess that those that have asked what your point is have NEVER had a lucid dream in their life.

I have been a member here for some time. I lucid dream often. I don't post much.

I don't feel a need to have a billboard for a sig line to fit in. I don't care to fit in.

Nor am I a member of a third world country ABBA cover band....ABBA has and will always suk!

In other words don't let members here that have no life either due to being fat pimple butt outcasts trying desperately to fit in anywhere with billboards and posting LD counts saying "please pay me attention" (and likely lying about having had an LD) or a third world country ABBA cover band member get you down.

A valid statement from you originally, and welcome to the forum!

This would have been a much more relevant opening post.

Oh thank you so very much for your irrelevant critique.

Don't you have an ABBA song to rehearse?

      My point is here: .

      but, talking seriously.
I know what he is talking about(Dextrous)
It happened to me, a little time, like 10 days ago.
In the dream, a little kid was talking to a stranger(I know it, but don't know his name).
the kid says "hey johnny, can you give me the joystick"
and, in just one second, I think this "this is impossible, how this kid can spell that name if I don't know that guy? this is a dream, so that kid can't say that name because I don't really know the name of this guy"
      and, I wake up.

      bye!

Advice you would do well to heed to yourself.

Instead of being arrogant, you could have had something relevant to offer. However due to your painfully obvious lack of experience in dreamwork you choose to critique his thread instead.

I hear Vladimir Putin likes ABBA, maybe if he rolls Russian tanks into Budapest you'll finally get a gig.

      Or not.

      Thank you.

      Back on subject:
I still have trouble with waking up when I become lucid. Just last night I had a dream with nearly every dream sign I had, and I noticed none of them. Then i think I was starting to suspect something, but the dream faded out just as I was realizing it was a dream. Next time something like that happens to you, try to DEILD; it's about a hundred times easier than WILDing, in my opinion. Not like I've been able to do either, but I've gotten much farther with DEILD.

Hmm, this thread can stay locked, it doesn't look there's anything constructive that can come from unlocking it.

The Newbie Zone, to the best of my knowledge, is an introduction forum where you can also ask basic questions about dreaming.

This thread should've been posted in Lucid Experiences, or moved there -- seeing as it had already degenerated by the time someone got to it, it can stay here and locked.

Any questions about where threads should be posted or the like, if anyone is stuck with that, can be asked via PM to a staff member.

Ya I actually moved it here from general discussion, after it was pointed out that if anything it belonged in newbie so that it would be excusable or in lucid experiences.
