How to do reality checks while dreaming???

I've been reading alot about achieving lucidity in dreams and have noticed alot of people saying do reality checks so that you know that you are dreaming or not. I can understand this while you are conscious and awake. My question is how do you do this while you are dreaming (non lucid) because if you know to do a reality check then you must already bsomewhat lucid? And even if you did a reality check while asleep wouldn't your dream just make it seem real anyway? Sorry if I seem a bit naieve but I have never been able to do a RC in a dream, not intentionally anyway. In saying that I have had a couple of occasions where I become lucid because my dream was just to weird.

From what I've heard, you do them while awake to build a habit of doing so, and hopefully perform one in a dream. Sometimes it's beneficial to do them in certain situations, i.e. waking up, in order to catch false awakenings.

Find your dream sign also. This is a reoccurring theme/object/feeling in your dream which by identifying may prompt your brain to perform a reality check.

use dreamsigns to become "somewhat lucid" like "Hey wtf I'm flying" and then d a reality check to confirm. Or just be lucky and accidentaly do an RC in a dream

As I posted in another thread, "You perform reality checks in dreams by making it a habit to do them in real life when strange things happen. Therefore the habit will carry over and hopefully you'll get lucid. You don't need to be lucid in the first place to do a reality check, because the RC is what makes you lucid."

Yep, pretty much the same as with the other responses. If you focus on dreams during the day by doing reality checks, that habit usually carries over into the dream world while you're dreaming. But this time, when you're dreaming and you do the reality check, something impossible in reality will occur, and you'll be aware that you're dreaming.

(ex: Hold your nose as an rc and try to breathe in real life. Air doesn't pass through your nose. Try in dream world, air passes though it should be cut off by your fingers. You realize this happens because you're dreaming, and you're now lucid )

I found that it helped me going through real life constantly thinking "wow if I was dreaming I could _______," then I'd do a reality check. So in my dreams I'll do the same.

For example, last night my dream was really dark. I said to myself, wow if I had night vision goggles right now I could see. The only way I could get my hands on night vision goggles would be if I was dreaming. BAM. RC. Got myself some nightvision goggles.

I was wondering the same thing. I've been doing reality checks every time I can think to, and as many as I can with the hopes of doing one in a dream and becoming lucid. So far, nothing, but I will NEVER give up hope.

A point to note is that when you do a reality check in real life make it genuine as if you are really trying to determine if you are dreaming or not... I did not do this up until last night where in a dream I did a reality check but just thought nothing of it like I do in real life because the dream was just so vivid.
