Question New guy needs a little direction

Hello everyone. I've always wanted to control my dreams so i can fly helicopters in them. And fight bad guys. As well as other things which need not be mentioned here . Anyway, I started a dream journal a year ago i think but i was in high school so i didnt really have the motivation to concentrate on lucid dreaming ontop of the daily life of a high school senior. But now that i'm graduated and everything, i see more incentive to it. the problem I have is not knowing where to start. is WILD something you do after experience with DILD, or can you pick and choose? i tried WILD this morning and felt a few vibrations and my head expanded like a helium balloon which was pretty cool but i never progressed beyond that. oh and I ship to Marine Corps boot camp in 2 weeks and I would like to have an LD before then. any feedback would be much appreciated .

Welcome to DV, Great_Daines I wish you luck as you head off to Basic.

As far as which technique to start out with, it differs from person to person. Most people start out with MILD and WBTB and use reality checks to initiate DILDs. It just depends and you may find that WILD works well for you or some other obscure practice. Take a look at the Tutorials and see what appeals to you and stick with it for a while. That's great that you started a dream journal (DJ), and I'd recommend keeping up with it. It will help your recall immensely and can reveal potential dream signs.

Let us know if there's anything we can do for you. Sweet lucid dreams!

perfect! yeah haha i layed there for like an hour before people started moving around upstairs and the morning light shone in, so i gave up. but i just bought a nice sleep mask with cups for your eyes to open and not be irritated as well as ear plugs. i'll also try the method of breathing deeply and counting until your body falls asleep, even if you count to 300 or more. I think thats where my problem was.
