How do I make the door trick work?

I was trying to make a WILD yesterday and had partial success, I ended up paralyzed a few times but that freaked me out and I broke it (that was unespected of me) and finally I was dreaming. I was in a school with my old class and head teacher. I was partially aware I was dreaming but somehow unconvinced. When my teacher morphed into one of the students I didn't have to be Einstein... So I realised I was dreaming and thought I might try the door trick I read in a lucid dreaming manual, where you can "expect" to find something behind a door and when you open it you will find it. Well, I wanted to visit a female cartoon character and expected to find myself in the cartoon world behind the door. Then on closer inspection, I realised there was her picture glued on the door, but the picture was altered and made her look bad. So I opened the door and behind was a regular spiral staircase... I walked up a bit, then to speed up floated a bit and ended up in a big hallway. I could hear voices on the lower floor and tried to float there but it was like some force was pulling me back. All the time I was floating I could hear this weird buzzing sound and I could not float in any direction I wished. In a short while the dream suddenly faded and I was seeing blackness. From that point I just woke myself up. There are a lot of questions coming up from the experience but the main thing I want to know is why the door trick failed. Do I have to expect something in more correlation with the environment? Would I be more successful if I found a TV and jumped into it?

I know tons of ways to make things appear, including this thing, but they almost never work for me. I am so bad at making things appear. TV's never cooperate for me either.
I usually resort to walking around and hoping to find what i need.

Good job on going lucid, that's always an achievment

As for the door trick, I've personally never had success with that either, I think a door divides the rooms too much and can lead somewhere unknown...actually I found myself walking down a spiral staircase once and started feeling very scared and then I woke up...

What does work for me is the "around the corner" trick. In whatever room I'm at, I'll begin walking find a corner and before passing it say "so and so will be there", I've made a room appear, my dog appear and a hot guy

When i summoned the hot dude, he appeared but was distorted and ugly, I simply closed myeyes and kept saying "no look like ths, look like this" and he transformed in front of my eyes.

It was good that you got the picture of her to appear, next time try pulling her out (even if she' distorted) and then try fixing her.

      Hope this helps

I'm not sure, maybe you weren't focused enough?

Different things work best for different people. I don't do too well with the door trick. I usually close my eyes, and envision that whatever I'm seeking is behind me.

Wow thank you all for your fast responses I see I'm not the only one having trouble with doors... I'll try the corner trick, and the pulling out of the picture and fixing, something must work But about closing eyes... that sometimes makes me wake up. Actually that's how I usually wake up, I'm in the dream and I feel like blinking and when I do I wake up. If I don't blink, my vision changes to reality and it feels like I've been dreaming with my eyes open Is it safe for everyone else when u close your eyes in a dream?

hmmm, yeah I can always close my eyes. It helps in making things appear... Maybe just try staying focused and saying you will still be dreaming when you open your eyes. I have heard that a lot of people will wake themselves up with thier eyes and I have once before, so if thats the case, use the corner or turning around like higurashi said. Once you find what works you'll be good to go.
