Not when I was younger, but about a month ago I was in a dream and I knew I could wake myself up if things got bad. I knew about LDing at the time, thuogh.

I never really had nightmares when I was younger, or at least not so many that it was a problem. I've heard stories of several other people doing what you did though.

I guess it would be considered a lucid dream, it was just a low level of lucidity. This makes me wonder... if little kids did know about LDing, they could probably be pretty good at it.

Really, almost every one? That's neat; I wonder why little kids never seem to come up with the idea of doing whatever they want to in their dreams, but several have decided to wake themselves up.

As a kid, I taught myself to realize when I was dreaming. It was cool, because once I was aware that I was dreaming, I could look at a clock and it would be the EXACT time it was in real life. I had to get up at seven, so I would look at my dream clock. If it said 7, I would wake myself up by widening my eyes and grunting. I kind of lost the ability after a while, and didn't know about LDs at the time

Holy crap, Conkt, I wish my dream clocks said the exact time it is! That's so useful. Do your dream clocks still say the time it is IRL?

I, too, wish I'd known about lucid dreaming when I was younger. I could fly circles around the best of 'em. Unfortunately I didn't, so I just have to make due with what I have now.

A lot of kids develop some awareness of the fact that they're dreaming at some point in time and either wake themselves up or have the clarity of mind to change the dream. Most of that stems from having a slough of nightmares and learning to cope with them. As we grow up, we convince ourselves that since the nightmares aren't real, it's not something we have to worry as much about when we're awake, or we begin to lose recall altogether.

I know you're not new, but if you haven't taken a look at the Tutorials, I would highly recommend doing so. They have some great general information and are the perfect place to get started when re-training yourself to recall your dreams and look for ways to realize that you're dreaming. Feel free to search through the forum as there is a ton of information posted, but if you don't find what you're looking for let us know.

I used to know that I'm dreaming when I was younger too. Sometimes I just realized that it's a dream and I could wake myself up, few times I even could change something in those dreams, but it never was full controlled dream.

But I can also remember that sometimes, when I had really bad nightmare, I was trying to wake me up, and I couldn't make it. I always woke up in most terrible point in my dream. That was happening to me few times, until I said to myself in my nightmare "It's a dream, I won't feel fear any more!" and I didn't try to wake up. Then it stops. I wish I could dream like a child again

Think of how much easier LDing would be for all of us if our parents had taught us.
