WILD without dozing off into normal sleep...?

      Hi guys!

I've tried to WILD about 3 times in the past 24 hours. The first time, I just couldn't concentrate and ended up laughing. The second, I kept getting interrupted. And the third, while counting and repeating "I will have a lucid dream," I ended up dozing off after about 200...how do I prevent this?
I thought about it and thought, "Doesn't counting MAKE you fall asleep?" because of the cliche counting sheep to fall asleep thing...

Is there some other method that will keep my mind from getting bored?

      THANKS

you could try a wake back to bed.

lets say you normally wake up at 8am. set your alarm for 6am. Get up...use the bathroom....write in your dream journal or whatever, then try to wild. A lot of it depends on your REM cycle. If you have an estimate of when you're dreaming during the night, then you can schedule a WILD around it.

Also it's better to try them when you're on a weekend or off day or something like that. That way, you're not worried about spending a lot of time lying down and not really sleeping...allowing you to be relaxed and focused at the same time.

Last but not least is practice. You're not going to be able to do it right off the bat...so don't let it get to you if it doesn't happen. Just try to have confidence that you can do it, and if it doesn't work out, oh well. At least you've gotten more aware with how your body acts before it goes to sleep, which is another key factor.

What time were you trying this? If either your serotonin or melatonin levels are too high, then WILDing is impossible. If your serotonin levels are too high (noonish) you won't be able to fall asleep, if your melatonin levels are too high (night) you'll go into a dreamless sleep.

As said above, try coupling WILD with WBTB, do it around 5am. Drink a lot of water before bed so you'll have to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, WILD then.
