      Well, the technique I use that's the most successful is this:

      Before going to bed, tell yourself you will remember your dream, down to the last detail. Your brain now knows that you want to remember your dreams. Usually, your brain trashes out dreams, but keeping a DJ and telling yourself you will remember them is very useful, and helps for me. It sets your mind's priorities straight, and keeps it from throwing out useful information.

      Try apple juice. that and a dream journal can work wonders. drink as much as you feel neccesary just before you sleep. you can look in lucid aids for other foods, drinks, or vitamins that could help.

      Make sure that you are getting enough sleep at night, try to get at least 7 hours and up to 8 or 9 per night. Keep a dream journal near you, open, and ready for you to write down anything you can remember, or just the time you woke up if you can't, every single time you wake up in the middle of the night.

      When you first wake up, lay still. Try to keep your room dark enough to be comfortable. Try to give yourself a nice relaxing time to wake up, maybe set a soft alarm for five minutes before you need to wake up so that you can just lay in bed and recall your dreams, then have a loud backup one in case you drift back to sleep. Lay in bed thinking about your last dream, and trying to work through associations of anything that you DO remember. For example, if you remember being in your friend's car, then you may have been traveling to or from somewhere, try to remember if there was a destination or if anything happened on the road, and if your friend was there and if so what they were doing.

      Also, maybe check out things like this http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...50&postcount=1 . Try to find a good balance between 'dream vividness' supplements and to read about them, what they are, when to use them, etc. before spending money or time on them. You might want to implement these things during a WBTB later in your sleep (like 5 hours into sleep), after waking yourself up to record any dreams you've had.

      Exactly what shift said, and if you don't want to write your dreams down when you wake up you can always use a tape-recorder.

      By the way shift, what is your avatar? it came up in an image search i made for sandmen but i didn't bother to look at the webpage it was on.
