      Hallucinations after waking

      Hi,

I am new here. So I want to say hi to everyone and talk about something. Sometimes just after I wake up (day or night) I see something that is not really there. Well at least I think it is not really there. For example I have seen people that weren't really there standing near me and then after a few seconds of me staring at this image it vanishes. I believe this has happened to me for my entire life. It seems to happen less often as I get older. Does anyone have any similar experiences. I still wonder sometimes if I am seeing a ghost or a hallucination. There is a medical term for these hallucinations. "Hypnopompic hallucination" The definition is: "A vivid dreamlike hallucination that occurs as one is waking up." I really want to hear from others who might also experience this. Thanks.

I've had vivid false awakenings, sometimes clumped together with actual awakenings, so that once I was fully awake it took a moment to straighten out whether anyone had actually been there. It sounds like you're describing something different...there's no chance you're having REM rebound? Waking briefly, then falling back into REM sleep, then waking again? I've had numerous experiences where the line between sleeping and waking was very blurry.
If you have a sense of caring for others, you will manifest a kind of inner strength in spite of your own difficulties and problems. With this strength, your own problems will seem less significant and bothersome to you. By going beyond your own problems and taking care of others, you gain inner strength, self-confidence, courage, and a greater sense of calm.Dalai Lama

Sometimes when Im seeing light Hypnagogic Imagery my eyes are open but I can't see anything. I see darkness and some lights and stuff. But not like real hallucinations I guess.

      wake visions

I have only had one. I thought it to be real. Bear with me I have a point. It was a black butterfly/moth that disturbed my dream (that I had up until then controlled... I was in an old kitchen with my mom eating cookies). The black moth fluttered in my face and then rested on a cuboard. It was the size of my hand wrist to tip. Biggest I've ever seen...anyways. When I woke up I saw it fly from my face into the bedroom corner behind the a curtain. There was a typhoon outside and my husband was filming it. He been gone for almost an hour ..when he had said he would be back in 15 minutes. I immediately jumped out of bed with the feeling that I HAD TO GET TO HIM. I found him right outside our apartment building unharmed. But, less then 5 minutes later a sign ripped off a building and flew past at over 80 km/hour. I believe it was a sign. I think, in my new found experience, that it is important to consider these types of wake visions. I believe they are powerful sybols that cannot be ignored.
